Many Moonlight fans are still upset over the cancellation of CBS’ Friday night vampire series. CBS is counting on viewers wanting more of the show’s star, Alex O’Loughlin, and put him front and center in the new medical series, Three Rivers. So, will O’Loughlin’s physician outlive his vampire character?
Three Rivers revolves around a team of elite surgeons who work in the high-pressure and emotional world of organ transplants. The leader is Dr. Andy Yablonski, (O’Loughlin) a workaholic with a quick wit.
His co-workers include rebellious Dr. Miranda Foster (Katherine Moennig), womanizing Dr. David Lee (Daniel Henney), inexperience coordinator Ryan Abbott (Christopher Hanke), dedicated head of surgery Dr. Sophia Jordan (Alfre Woodard), and Pam Acosta (Justina Machado), Andy’s best friend.
Many have suspected that the drama was in trouble even before it got out of the starting gate. Amid some negative early reviews, CBS decided to bump the pilot episode and air the second installment instead. The second episode, which is set to air next week, is called “Ryan’s First Day” and might be a little confusing since returning viewers have already seen Ryan working at his job.

Based on the early ratings, that may be the least of CBS’ worries. Three Rivers debuted last night with a disappointing 9.17 million viewers and a 2.0/5 rating/share among adults 18-49. It ranked in a distant third place in total viewership and a distant fourth place in the all important demographic.
Three Rivers retained a little more than 70% of its lead-in audience and, in the same timeslot last year, Cold Case brought in almost two million more viewers.
Based on typical ratings trends, even fewer people can be expected to return next week. If you look at it that way, Three Rivers’ life expectancy doesn’t look very good.
Is Three Rivers worth saving or should CBS do a mercy killing and cancel it now? What do you think?
Not thrilled with the show…. how many donor/recipient stories can they do before they run out of ideas? This person is sick and needs a transplant… this person is dead and is a donor. SURPRISE! Yeah, no. Boring. I gave it a chance. CBS should have kept Moonlight. At least that was something different. If CBS thinks people will watch it because Alex O is in it, they are sadly mistaken. I don’t see Three Rivers making it through the season. Oh well, moving on.
Moonlight was nothing like Twilight and it was runing prior to Twilight and True Blood. I said before I do not wish for TR to tank it just appears it is headed that way. If the ratings went down they will have a hard time bringing them up. Moonlight returning will get the ratings. TR has a great message as I have already said just doesn’t make for the best of a show and I like the show I just liked Moonlight better. You say they have never brought a show back and that is probably true so why not… Read more »
I don’t think networks give shows a chance. I enjoyed Three Rivers very much and am happy that more awareness is being shown to organ transplants.
Please give it more time. Also, how do you determine how many are watching? We have no devises in our home to allow tracking of what we watch.
The last thing the world needs is another retarded ass twilight wannabe series. Im Deff a Kate Moennig fan and i say keep it! Or give her another better show..
I was a big Moonlight fan and mourned its cancellation. But that was then and now is now. I wasn’t impressed with the first episode of Three Rivers but since I’m an O’Loughlin fan I decided to tune in to last night’s episode. I was pleasantly surprised at how much better it was than the first one. I say let the show build some momentum and and allow the characters to settle in. The cast is extremely talented and it would be a shame to cancel it too early. Hopefully, CBS learned its lesson from cancelling Moonlight before its time.… Read more »
I say give Three Rivers a Chance. I enjoyed the show very much.
Not even Moonlight viewers are watching this show. Yesterday went down to a 7.4 million viewers and 1.7 in demo. Gee…Moonlight never got so low ratings . CBS did a huge mistake. They should had put moonlight in the Sunday spot instead of trying to lure us into this ridiculois show . Even if Alex is a great actor this show is terrible. CBS thinking Moonlight viewers were going to save this show..well…I think we know the answer. All we wanted was Moonlight back . All the cast back.
i never watched “moonlight,” so i actually had no idea how big alex o’laughlin was. but i don’t think everyone should say to kill the show in hopes that they’ll bring back “moonlight” because i don’t think that’ll happen. in fact, i don’t think that’s ever happened. i watched “three rivers” for the first time last night, and i thought it was awesome. i’ve never seen or heard of another show that gives us an inside look at organ transplants and donors. the fact that this show focus on that specifically, is an educational thing. so i think CBS should… Read more »
After reading all of the comments I am almost a little unsure if you will like mine. First I am a die hard Alex fan, as well as a die hard Moonlight fan. I began watching Moonlight for the story, action, characters (cast), and general who done it factor, not to mention I love romance movies so when the writers had the human/vampire love story going on top of the other stuff, I was hooked. This is where I found out who Alex O was. The hottest thing since sliced bread. CBS had a great show with excellent story line,… Read more »
CANCEL NOW!!! Put these poor actors out of their misery. They all look so uncomfortable and unbelievable in these rolls. The writing is TERRIBLE …. not even the best actors could make it interesting. It is so sappy and contrived. Yes it is an important subject but that is no reason to keep on an unwatchable show.
Some people are truly ignorant if they rather watch a stupid vampire show that has nothing to do with educating people of one of the biggest unknown national crisis we are facing – that of the need of organ donors and transplants. I so appreciate that we finally have a show that is making people talk and consider the needs of transplantation and for us all to sign up to be donors. There are plenty of vampire shows. There is only one that is dedicated to donation. People, face the reality of life. Pretty soon you will know someone who… Read more »
I only saw one episode of Moonlight, so I cannot comment on its greatness. But, contrary to what an earlier post, it wasn’t the first vampire series on television nor even the first in recent memory. Dark Shadows existed a long time ago, and there was probably another series prior to that one. And, of course, Buffy lasted for seven seasons. The name was silly; the show was great. It is interesting that the vast majority of the comments aren’t about Three Rivers. I think that says it all. It’s an okay show, but it is formulaic. The only thing… Read more »
I hope Three Rivers is given the chance to grow. It has a talented cast. Alex may need a
bit of time to develop his character on the show, unlike his Mick St. John, which he
nailed from the get-go. People who are so obsessed with Moonlight they think that if
TR fails, that somehow will convince the network to bring Moonlight back, just baffle
me. No one behind the scenes of Moonlight, the producers or studios has ever admitted
regret or fault in print or publicly, over the cancellation of the show. They’re not likely
to either.
I love Three Rivers and all the talented actors on this intriguing, educational and intelligent medical drama, dealing with an important topic organ transplantation, which has never been attempted before on any television network. I am also a big fan of Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Henney, Katherine Moennig, and Alfre Woodard. Christopher J. Hanke and Justina Machado are also part of this talented young cast on Three Rivers. Last Sunday was the first episode. Three Rivers needs more episodes to tell the stories, personal backgrounds and relationships of each of the surgeons/characters. I will continue to watch Three Rivers. I believe… Read more »
Moonlight was never about Alex , it was about the story and the whole cast.CBS knows it is true and now with Three Rivers horrible ratings everybody knows it. In our letters we asked for more Moonlight never for just Alex. Vampires are hot this year and CBS kills our sexy Vamp and gives us a Transplant doctor.
Give us our Vamp back!!!
