Many Moonlight fans are still upset over the cancellation of CBS’ Friday night vampire series. CBS is counting on viewers wanting more of the show’s star, Alex O’Loughlin, and put him front and center in the new medical series, Three Rivers. So, will O’Loughlin’s physician outlive his vampire character?
Three Rivers revolves around a team of elite surgeons who work in the high-pressure and emotional world of organ transplants. The leader is Dr. Andy Yablonski, (O’Loughlin) a workaholic with a quick wit.
His co-workers include rebellious Dr. Miranda Foster (Katherine Moennig), womanizing Dr. David Lee (Daniel Henney), inexperience coordinator Ryan Abbott (Christopher Hanke), dedicated head of surgery Dr. Sophia Jordan (Alfre Woodard), and Pam Acosta (Justina Machado), Andy’s best friend.
Many have suspected that the drama was in trouble even before it got out of the starting gate. Amid some negative early reviews, CBS decided to bump the pilot episode and air the second installment instead. The second episode, which is set to air next week, is called “Ryan’s First Day” and might be a little confusing since returning viewers have already seen Ryan working at his job.

Based on the early ratings, that may be the least of CBS’ worries. Three Rivers debuted last night with a disappointing 9.17 million viewers and a 2.0/5 rating/share among adults 18-49. It ranked in a distant third place in total viewership and a distant fourth place in the all important demographic.
Three Rivers retained a little more than 70% of its lead-in audience and, in the same timeslot last year, Cold Case brought in almost two million more viewers.
Based on typical ratings trends, even fewer people can be expected to return next week. If you look at it that way, Three Rivers’ life expectancy doesn’t look very good.
Is Three Rivers worth saving or should CBS do a mercy killing and cancel it now? What do you think?
I guess that many viewers isn’t bad. I feel that it is still another medical show and there are alot of them out there. The vampire PI that solves crimes with the help of his reporting human friend, whom he is in love with and he is constantly fighing the line between vampires and humans, there wasn’t another show like that and ther never has been. I just loved Moonlight. It was different, one of a kind and something that made you count the days until the next Friday night so you could see what happens next and what crime… Read more »
I love this show, been watching everyone. Yeah there is a lot of medical shows but this one is totally different, most just envolve the ER. This one is just an organ show, which I’ve never seen before and it’s really interesting. Why is almost 10 million viewers bad? I think that’s really good! Way better ratings than mercy and trauma, and football was on, and it was sunday!?
I must admit last Sunday’s episode of Three Rivers was the best one since it began. I only hope it is able to pull the viewers. You know they always say you get the most people watching the first night and if you don’t hook them then you might not get them back. I like the show, I just liked Moonlight better. Alex is a very good actor and plays all the parts he has been given to the best he can. He just made the coolest vampire and its hard not to see him doing that. I still hope… Read more »
I say cancel the show and bring back Moonlight… There are way too many medical t.v. shows.
Love this show. I’ve seen every episode this season! I like it not only for the fact that my favorite “Moonlight” actor is in it but because of the content of the show! Please do not cancel it!!!!
Kate Moennig’s fans will watch it as well
Oops, I mean “for the beginning of its season”
Great new show. Who in the world put it up against Desperate Housewives for the beginning of it’s season? People are watching Three Rivers over CBS Website and on cable On Demand. I think it is an excellent show. Well acted and a great crew. It is one that caught my attention and is my new addiction, along with Mad Men. If given a chance, it will catch on and be a hit! They should do an encore show like Mad Men on Sunday night. Too many excellent shows on at one time. Three Rivers is catching on internationally if… Read more »
I love this Three Rivers. Yes, like everyone else I was fan of the Moonlight and upset when it was cancelled. You have to have a little time for a show to gain a fan base. I love the characters Dr. Andy and especially Dr. Lee, great stuff! So please dont cancel it!
I am watching Three Rivers because I love Alex O’loughlin. The premiere was very weak. I watched the second episode on Sunday and it was a bit more entertaining. The main weakness seems to be stemming from the story line and the main characters need to develop. I loved Moonlight and I am still VERY upset that CBS cancelled the show. It is safe to say that I am giving Three Rivers a chance because Alex O’loughlin was so damn good in Moonlight. If Alex was not the main character, I would have already stopped watching. CBS should have given… Read more »
Gee people, did not anyone remember buffy, how at first it had not attention, then it became a class act. Well this show has great potential, give it a chance, it won’t happen overnight. We have to give ourselves time to get to know the characters and now that er is gone, this one fill the importance of organ donnation and maybe people who did not may now sign their cards knowing how important it is to donnate. Heck, i am a huge vampire fan and miss moonlight, but what is done is done..lets not dwell and give alex a… Read more »
ARE PEOPLE IN SUCH A HURRY, LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO BUFFY, POOR AT FIRST AND A CLASS ACT LATER, GIVE SHOWS A CHANCE, YES I MISS MOONLIGHT AS I AM A HUGE VAMPIRE FAN, BUT ER IS GONE AND THIS FILLS THE QUOTA OF SOMETHING THAT IS IMPORTANT AND IS EDUCATIONAL FOR THOSE WHO WERE NOT BUT MAY NOW CONSIDER SIGNING DONNAR CARDS..WAKE UP PEOPLE, WE HAVE ENOUGH COP DRAMAS AND REALITY TV..GIVE ALEX A CHANCE THE CHARACTERS NEED TO GROW ON US, IT WON’T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT..
I am not saying not to give it a chance. I want it to have a chance and I am watching every week. I have been checking out reviews all over the net and there is a very high percent that are not good, which leads me to say that in the very worst seniro that Three Rivers can’t make it, THEN CBS should take a step back and give the viewing public a show that will draw us and pull in the ratings. Moonlight will do that. Why do I say that? Because it was doing it before it… Read more »
Hell yeah KEEP IT!! Why do networks cancel shows so quickly?! Don’t they realize that not all shows are run away hits right out of the gate? Give it a chance! It is different from other hospital shows….and has a good cast! Love the look of it too.
Jeez if you look back in tv history not all shows had huge ratings right away….Sienfeld was a bomb the first year…but the network gave it a chance…..
CBS GIVE IT A CHANCE!! let it gain an audience.
If given a chance I think Three Rivers may be able to draw more viewers. Contrary to what people who are ignorant to the world of transplant believe there are endless stories to be told.
