Last year, Under the Dome was quickly renewed for another season on CBS. No such luck this time around. Will it be renewed for a third season or will the series be cancelled instead?
Under the Dome revolves around residents of Chester’s Mill in Maine after a large transparent dome cuts them off from the world. Those on the inside must work to survive with limited resources and rising tension. The large cast includes Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Nicholas Strong, Colin Ford, Mackenzie Lintz, Jolene Purdy, Aisha Hinds, Dean Norris, Eddie Cahill, and Karla Crome.
Last year, the show started strong but lost a lot of steam over the course of the season. It ended up averaging a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.21 million viewers.
Season two has seen a big decline in the ratings. It’s dropped 41% in the demo to a 1.6 rating and dropped 36% in viewership, to 7.14 million. On the positive side, it’s still the network’s highest-rated scripted series of the summer.
Last summer, CBS President and CEO Les Moonves noted that, because of deals with Amazon and overseas distributors, Under the Dome was profitable for the corporation even before the series had even premiered.
Recently Moonves told investors that, even though the show’s ratings are way down, it is still profitable — generating $2.5 million per episode before they air.
Based on this information, it sounds very likely that Under the Dome will return for a third season next summer. If they plan to end it, hopefully they’ll close the story properly.
But, what do you think? Should Under the Dome be renewed for a third season or should it be cancelled? How long should this series run?
10/9 update: CBS has renewed Under the Dome for a third season.
Please bring it back!!! Love it!!!!!! If LOST can make it on a desert island, can’t this continue??????
Please don’t cancel another good show as usual…getting tired of that. Either way there needs to b a good ending of the actual dome..
I was really into this show the first season but it went downhill in the second season. Cancel it or bring it back for one last season to wrap it all up. If fine with either. I have no interest in watching this show for another two or three seasons
Renew and close out the season
Under the Dome rocksss! Must have more seasons, Stephen king is a hit worldwide! Its true season 1 was awesome and the casting is fabulous, and the season 2 down the rythim of the action with the intrigues, but still deserves more seasons.. Fingers crossed. 😀
Love the show, at least bring it back to finish and get the people out of the Dome
Please renew it for a third season I love this show great storyline great characters and actors it’s one of the best shows on TV today! So please don’t cancel it!!!
bring under the dome back for season 3 please. How many seasons will there be??
Keep it going. I find the story very intriguing — not the same old, same old as many series. Either set an end game like Lost did — 5 years or so, or keep it going until it starts getting stale.
Cancel it
As much as I love this show, bring it back for a 3rd and final season. This way all could be brought to a closure.
I love the show. Please renew it.
Let it die. It was ok when it started and close to the book, but none of this season is even in the book. Why did Mr King let this happen! It’s bad.
Rick I’m glad I didn’t read the book. Because I have really enjoyed udome just the way it eas written.
I watch a few episodes because I love Britt Robertson but this show is so bad that it should be called Under The Trash Can 😛 but I won’t be surprise if gets renew, I saw a lot of bad show got renewed and good show got cancelled that I don’t know anymore.
Cancel this idiotic tv show as Under the Dome needs to be put into the trash can and cover up with a lid!
Love the show. Please bring it back to resolve the story.
The writing for the first season was much better than the second. The plot seemed more forced, less plausible, too rushed. But the story has fascinated me. But the story needs to be well thought out….constructed carefully, woven throughout. Sometimes a character or event splashes in like an unexpected and unmatched color…sudden, unrelated, and for no reason other than length. If you can’t weave the story better than that, then bring a great story to a timely end. Don’t let it die slowly and painfully.
