Sadly, the Visitors aren’t among us any longer. After two short seasons, ABC has cancelled their V TV series.
A reimagining of the original V, this series tells the tale of what happens when an advanced alien race arrives of Earth professing their desire to help mankind. Fortunately, not everyone trusts them. The second season features the talents of Charles Mesure, Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Joel Gretsch, Laura Vandervoort, Logan Huffman, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, and Scott Wolf.
For season one, V ended up averaging a 2.25 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 5.7 million average viewers. It was “on the bubble” but ended up being renewed for a 13 episode second season. The network was hoping that the show would catch on and the ratings would improve.

ABC later reduced the episode order to just 10 installments and debuted them mid-season. Unfortunately, ABC’s gamble didn’t pay off. Season two of V ended up averaging only a 1.9 in the demo and 5.49 million viewers.
Though the network and producers maintained that the show was still in contention for next season, it was clear that there would only be a third season of V if ABC was willing to gamble once again. In the end, they weren’t.
ABC confirmed today that V has been cancelled after two seasons and 22 episodes. The series finale aired on March 15th and, unfortunately, there were lots of unresolved cliffhangers. Hopefully the producers will someday share what they had in mind for season three.
What do you think? Are you sad that V won’t be returning next season? Why do you think the series didn’t catch on?

95 comments and 90% of us (out of 998 votes in the poll at this time) saying this shouldn’t have been canceled… I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an outpouring of support for a show on this site before and it’s fully justified. V was excellent sci-fi television in a wasteland of competition shows and guilty pleasure reality TV.
Its time the networks realize the ratings are not being split 3 ways, like in the days of ABC, CBS and NBC tv. Today there are hundreds of ways to watch different shows, so you can’t use the (Viewers=the number of possible viewers divided by 3) formula. On YouTube if a clip gets less than a million views it can become a hit. Something that need to be factor in, when the network decide there isn’t enough viewers watching a particular show. I watch internet base shows with less than 2000 viewers on a live broadcast basis, and they are… Read more »
ABC done it again…won’t allow an audience to grow and will not promote a show as good as V with advertising dollars. Show season one and two during the summer months, back to back, no repeating them, that is 22 episodes, show the other viewers what they where missing while watching there hit established shows and promote the heck out of it. God where would Cheers be if NBC pulled the plug after 22 episodes. You have a hit hear with V, a new JR, with Anna. TV has waited some 20 years for a vixen by the like her.… Read more »
This always happens when a network takes a show in it’s first and/or second season, and messes with the day/time/schedule. People can’t get into a show that is somewhat serialized like V. It needs a consistent spot to grow into a viewer base that actually would follow the show if it had a new day/time/schedule.
I loved the old series, but the new V was even better! Hard to find a good sy-fy that you can’t wait to see the next show. The special efforts were AWESOME!!! I’m becomming very dissatisfied with tv, it seems as soon as i fine a show i enjoy it’s cancelled. I had neilson twice and my favorite shows were still cancelled . I think a better way of checking viewers choice is “call samples” and ask them what they like. Some viewers like comedy and some dont. Some viewers like sy-fy,ect. I guess i’m just at a lost, can’t figure out… Read more »
I waited on the Sci-fi channel to pick up “Jericho” as well, it never happened. ABC you suck. Good thing the satellite companies are making us pay extra for local channels, because now I can refuse them and you.
The long hiatuses shows take now hurt them. By the time they come back on you’ve forgotten what happened in the previous season or you totally missed they were back on the air. This same thing happened with 4400.
Networks should go back to mini-series since they no longer have the stomach to weather it until a show catches on.
For V, a two hour wrap up would really be nice!
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GUY’S PLAYING AT. WHAT ABOUT THE FANS WORLD WIDE. THIS IS A GREAT SERIES. AS BEFORE WE HAVE BEEN LEFT ON A KNIFE EDGE. WHAT DO THE YANK TV WATCHERS WANT TO SEE, OTHER THAN A FANTASTIC SCI-FI SUCH AS V. THE WORLD TRUSTS YOU GUYS TO PRODUCE GREAT TV FOR US ALL TO WATCH AND WHEN YOU DO PRODUCE IT YOU TAKE IT OFF THE AIR? PLEASE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND SHOOT SERIES THREE. IF NOT YOU’LL LOOSE THE REST OF THE WORLDS FAITH FOR THE FUTURE… FROM A VERY SAD AND VERY… Read more »
We just need to stop watching ABC since they are always cancelling shows. Uggghhh
Unfortunately, begging Sy-Fy channel is a waste. They are short sighted as well, cancelling Stargate Atlantis after 5 seasons and Stargate Universe after 2. I believe society’s need to know immediately who gets “voted off” or the “instant gratification” those types of shows bring have overcome the idea to think. Very sad.
this was my favorite TV show. I thought all the characters were fascinating, but especially Morena’s. Wish that I could at least see some conclusions to the cliff hangers. Sci Fi channel should definitely take it on.
I can not stomach ABC anymore…I was a huge fan of most of their shows but between cancelling the soaps and V, I am done. I love DWTS but I will no longer watch anything on ABC, they have no loyalty to their viewers. V was an amazing show, too bad the executives are all about reality. News flash it is overdone and no one wants another reality show. Good luck ABC you have lost another viewer.
Simply…I agree with everyone
Lame. Abc=Fail.
I am sooooooooo sad right now! I loved watching the show!!!! please sy-fy channel…..pick up the show!!!!
