The ABC network has been announcing its new Fall 2006 schedule this week. As part of that, they’ve been telling us what won’t be returning, much to the dismay of some TV viewers. It turns out that none of the scripted series introduced on ABC last fall will be returning.
Commander in Chief – ABC will begin airing the remaining new episodes on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Fans of the series will be able to purchase Commander in Chief on DVD in the Fall. I would expect there to be some interesting supplemental materials concerning this promising but troubled series. (Download Commander in Chief on iTunes)
Crumbs – The outrageous comedy with Jane Curtin, William Devane and Fred Savage is not on the ABC Fall 2006 schedule. Five of the existing eight episodes were aired.
The Evidence – This Rob Estes drama shot six episodes (aired four) and has been off the schedule since April.
Freddie – ABC will show the unaired pilot episode of the Brian Austin Green and Freddie Prinze, Jr. series on Wednesday, May 31, 2006.
Hope & Faith – After 73 episodes and three seasons, the season finale that aired on May 2nd will be the show’s last. Repeat episodes can be seen on Friday nights beginning June 2, 2006.
In Justice – The Kyle MacLachalan drama has not been picked up for a new season and only produced 13 episodes (all of which have aired).
Invasion – There were reportedly some initial talks of the show being picked up by the new CW network. That became unlikely due to high production costs. The complete Invasion series is available on DVD and features some nice extras.
Less Than Perfect – You can see new episodes starting on Tuesday, May 30, 2006. After four seasons, the show is not on the Fall lineup.
Primetime – For the first time in over 15 years, the veteran news show is not on the fall schedule. The show may return in the form of news specials or if an entertainment show currently on the schedule fails.
Rodney – This show has been missing since February but will return on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 to air unseen episodes.
Sons & Daughters – Fans of this quirky comedy can check out co-creator and series star Fred Goss’ blog for his thoughts on the cancellation.
Other shows that had been cancelled previously include: Alias, Emily’s Reasons Why Not, Hot Properties, Jake in Progress, and Night Stalker.
Keep in mind that, though unlikely, it is possible for shows to be resurrected, especially after a new season starts and new shows don’t garner the ratings that the network hopes for.
According to Jim, What About Brian and George Lopez, which were all on the brink of cancellation, have been renewed for another season.
A good reason not to watch network TV is the way that leave a great show like Invasion, with no ending and the audiance hanging. But not to worry! You can bet your last doller that they will find a realy Crappy show to replace it with.It appears that there is a network rep. watching my house and if they find a show that I like someone runs to cancel it.
I can’t believe that Invasion was cancelled – why is it that all the good sci-fi shows get cancelled – and to add insult to injury they cancel the show without concluding it – its like reading a great mystery and then putting the book down before getting to the end – before anything is explained. Invasion had a great cast and a great storyline – I seem to remember another great Shaun Cassidy show – American Gothic that was cancelled. What is wrong with you television executives – I can;t remember exactly but if Surface was also an ABC… Read more »
Why would you cancel In Justice and The Evidence? It doesn’t make sense to cancel shows that have good ratings after only one year. There are numerous shows that didn’t even do well the first year and went on to run for several years. Reconsider these 2 shows please.
Please don’t cancel Invasion. I never use to watch “regular” TV ie:Abc. These stations didn’t have anything as interesting as cable television! When the line-up of “Lost” and “Invasion” aired midweek on television, the unthinkable happened. I actually enjoyed watching ABC. As a matter of fact, I really enjoyed the line-up on Sunday night when Grey’s Anatomy was on after Desperate Housewives, but y’all had to mess with that! Why do you change things up when they are already fine. It was nice to unwind with my favorite shows on Sunday before I had to return to the “grind” on… Read more »
Please bring RODNEY back. I looked forward to
seeing his show each week, and I miss it very
much. I still have some of the episodes recorded,
so I can replay them, but I would love to see
some new episodes.
If anyone gets a chance to see
his “live” stand-up show, it is also hilarous.
And to ABC, Please give Rodney a second chance; and a better time slot. It was not nice to put him up
against American Idol.
I CANT BELIEVE THEY CANCELED INVASION. IF IT WASNT FOR LOST, GREYS ANATOMY I WOULDNT’ WATCH IT ABC AT ALL. INVASION WAS THE BEST SHOW ON TV AND I DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY WOULD JUST TAKE IT OFF. NONE OF THE NEW SHOWS THAT ANY OF THESE NETWORKS ARE OFFERING SOUND GOOD ENOUGH TO WATCH. THEY ALL SEEM VERY CORNY OR KNOCKOFFS FROM ANOTHER STATION. INVASION WAS AWESOME, I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY COULD LEAVE US HANGING ABOUT LARKIN AND THE REST OF THE CAST, AT LEAST SEND A LETTER OR SOMETHING TO LET US KNOW ABOUT LARKIN AND WHAT… Read more »
BRING INVATION BACK! THIS IS WHY I DON’T WATCH T.V. SERIES BECAUSE ALL THE GOOD ONE’S GET CANCELLED AND ALL THE STUPID ONE’S STAY ON. BRING IT BACK BRING INVATION BACK, IT WAS THE BEST SHOW IN A LONG TIME AND IT WAS GETTING GREAT. YOUR JUST GOING TO LEAVE ALL US FANS WOUNDERING WHAT HAPPEN’S NEXT JUST LIKE THAT. THAT’S NOT RIGHT
I would sign a petition to get Rodney back on the air. His show was what I looked forward to every week! The laughs where endless. I live in Tulsa and we are very proud of Rodney here. Please bring back Rodney!! It was nice to have a comedy on TV instead of so many reality shows! WE LOVE YOU RODNEY!!!!!
How can ABC justify taking off Commander in Chief, is it because they thought it was to farfetched to have a woman as PRESIDENT. The worst of it is our favorite show Invasion. At least it isn’t a stupid new comedy that ABC would cancel after 2-3 shows while replacing our favorite shows. I really hope that another station picks it up, and how can they leave us hanging after the last show! I hope maybe the Sci-Fi station will pick it up, or another station that knows great shows and how many people watched it. We certainly don’t need… Read more »
I’m very disappointed that my favorite shows Rodney & Less Than Perfect were cancelled. What’s wrong with ABC? Do they really think that doing new shows will change their primetime ratings? I don’t think so! Rodney was the best comedy show on ABC!
Bangge
Come on ABC…!!!! We absolutely loved Invasion, quality actors, exciting storyline that keeps you hanging every week. What more do you people want!!!!
ABC please bring back Invasion it was a great show and I don’t want to always wonder what happened to the characters. Please give us some closure. sincerly, Jennifer
All of the comments in favor of Invasion show that ABC has again shown they are not in tune with their viewers.
They did the same thing with China Beach years ago.
Would be great if someone else picked it up.
ABC…you need to replace your upper management! First off Rodney was a great show…dispite the fact that you would go weeks at a time without airing episodes. How did they expect people to catch on when they rarely showed it….instead they show four episodes in a row of according to Jim! (by the way…Rodney is much funnier than according to Jim) Bring back Rodney!
I know of at least 6 families who watched this show. We watched LOST and then immediately afterwards continued with Invasion. Wednesday evening ABC was the best TV night. I can’t believe a show would be cancelled without an ending and leave the TV audience hanging.
Is someone afraid that THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL? First the X-Files and now INVASION.
