As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Was looking forward to seeing lots more seasons of AD!!!! Bring it back please…if not on NBC, on another channel Please….
Love the show, I was looking forward to the next season, a great lost for everybody
I have been looking forward to the next season. What a powerful presentation of acts. Very disappointed to hear it is cancelled
please continue.
I am so sad they did not renew this series. It was very inspirational & informable.
I truly LOVED watching these shows weekly and miss them greatly. I will be praying they return. 🙂
Our family really enjoyed and learned a lot from this series. NBC should be ashamed for not rendering the contract for a second season. With all of the unacceptable things they choose to air, they be proud to support the ministry… Even if only a handful of people give their life to Christ… It would be worth it.
I hope another network steps up and grabs this series for their lineup.
you said it perfectly they need to put it back on but its all about that MONEY TO THEM
Yes. We enjoyed this series very much!!! Need More!!!
Outstanding series! At first I thought it would be boring. We were really looking forward to the next season and we’re disappointed to see it was cancelled. That being said we will watch on dvd if available. It’s even more reason NOT to waste time channel surfing some of the pointless programming they keep putting on TV.
Yes! I will definite continue to watch it and enjoy, the stations decide to go on by ‘ratings’ but they don’t take into account the teaching and the reminder of what was given by ‘Jesus’ for us. The Stations now days rely on idiotic shows that don’t have a teaching outcome. I hope someone in the Station has the understanding that the message being transmitted is needed and a teaching for those that also cant read, but can watch it on TV. The second season should continue …. Thank You for taking your time
I really looked forward to this show every Sunday night when aired and pray that it does eventually return. Of everything on tv, this was truly the Bible coming to life! The body of Christ needs more programming of this nature and I am thankful for those who invested their time/resources in these portrayals of scripture. Thanks for the time we did have something to see that glorified our God!!
I Loved AD: The Bible Continues and am so disappointed it’s been cancelled. I have been waiting all Summer for it to return! I don’t have cable and watched it on line so it really doesn’t matter to me how it’s aired. Just, please, bring it back 🙂
The best TV series I’ve watched.
Once in a life time we get to see an action an incredible history and faith unfolding to what we have received in our days. It would really be ashame for the network not to continue with these series. They will become a reference for years to come.
Loved this show and hope it’s back. Well done and engaging. Would love for it to be on TV so people who don’t have or use electronic devices will have access. I find so much on TV offensive I hardly watch anything anymore. Make sure the word gets out if and when it’s relaunched!
