As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Our home has been enjoying this series and recorded it to watch together. Sad it was cancelled and look forward to any further episodes. It’s sparked our faith
I love that show I can not believe it has ben canceled
Too bad they cancelled the show–one of the best Christian shows I have seen.Top quality for a TV show. People that don’t even watch it because they think that it doesn’t have the “usual” things that entertain them like sex, drugs, murder, rape, etc. If they only knew that all of that is in the Bible.! Moses killed a man, David conspired to commit murder, many men had mistresses in the Bible, Cain murdered Abel, Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, etc. . .
Such a great show please bring it back!!!
LOL! For some reason I’m subscribed to the comments here, and this is the best comment here by far!
How typical of NBC. They really needed only a few more episodes to wrap up this series and they stop. This was a superior series that deserved to continue. Can’t say that about NBC’s execs.
YES it very disappointing that they have cancles this GREAT SERIES…They should have kept it on for a 2nd season……. When one door closes another will for sure OPEN!!!!
Very disappointed adBible was canceled. Not much of a internet movie watcher. Suggest try to get adBible on another HD network such as A&E, TNT, Family channel, discovery..
The most outstanding scene ever was when Jesus ascended Into heaven with the Angels standing on the clouds.
Thank you, thank you for you amazing work

i’M SO DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED..I WOULD APY ANYTHING TO SEE IT CONTINUED ELSEWHERE
My husband and I looked forward to every episode as it gave us a better understanding of the bible and historical background. Very well done. Very disappointed in NBC’s decision, and hate that so much time will be lost finding another venue.
Thank you Mark Burnett & Roma Downey for your continued efforts to keep this series alive.
i enjoyed this story so much and after reading my bible many times it still made a difference my Christian walk. I was very much awaiting season 2 and very much disappointed that the show has been cancelled.
Yes I would watch this I was so disappointed that there wasn’t a season two. I would watch it on TV / or privat pay chanel. And I’d like to have a special chanel with this kind of films and maybe documetary.
NBC or other channels please bring back the A.D the bible continues. My husband & I learned a lot from it, it’s very well done. So sad that it’s discontinued 🙁
Yes I would watch this I was so disappointed that there wasn’t a season two and if the season two was already done please Erin it would give so many people such satisfaction I would watch it on TV I would pay to watch it on TV please put season two on
I am so disappointed that they will not air another season. I WILL WATCH ONLINE, CABLE, SMOKE SIGNALS….WHATEVER IT TAKES!!! Our tv broke after episode 5 and we could not watch. We recorded it all though and will continue to rewatch.
No, I think NBC is making a bad move by cancelling AD the Bible. It seems like they want to make shows of violence, vampires, and other things that the make the world go crazy. Yet when it comes to real life, the life of the bible which we should be learning from, they cancel it. I may just have to cancel NBC from my television. I really pray that they will reconsider and continue this great show, in which I have learned from. We all need to learn a lot more from our God.
No, I don’t think NBC should have cancelled the Bible AD. Most people DVR’d the show so they could watch it all at once! My husband and I did the same and we’ve been rewatching it ever since! NBC made it bad decision!
