As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Please bring it back
I really hate that A.D. was cancelled, it was truly a blessing in the making. Why cancel so soon ? I know that God was moving through that show and the negative naysayers couldn’t stand it… I demand that you bring it back and watch the ratings go through the roof. We need a good bible based show on to give us Christians something decent to watch. If you cancel something cancel all those ungodly abominations based shows. Proves that we are truly in the bible’s predicted last days..Good vs Evil. Who wins ? Good Always !! All Thanks to… Read more »
I am also disappointed also. I would buy the DVDs. We need more programming
Like the ad series instead of so much of the trash that is on tv. Shame on you nBC
NBC is cowards and rather have shows that is tainted, wrapped up in lust and Fowlness.
I am very disappointed that NBC has canceled the series AD the bible continues! I was so looking forward to the second season. I will pay to watch get this new channel if need be so I can watch this fabulous program. God bless Roma Downey and her husband for directing programs like this!!
Iwas looking foreward to second series of the bible ad. I am very dissipointed in that
out come
love that show,,,was looking forward to see the second season….
I was going to buy A.D. on DVD’s to watch over again and again until the Second Season played. How that it is not going to be renewed I will not be buying Season 1. How disappointing that is I can’t even begin to say……Jesus do something! Convince whoever makes that decision to bring back Season 2. Please Jesus!
I’ll pay everything to watch the next season it’s so sad to discontinue this show pls think about it coz it’s very spiritual
I am very disappointed that A.D. The Bible is not going on to a second season. It is sad that this generation is more interested in violence and science fiction, fantasy stories than they are in the one who has allowed them to be able to wake up every morning who is our Savior. Some of the powers at be on the TV Networks should read the Bible and face REALITY as to how they became to be. Some producers and directors have lost sight as to what is truth and what is fiction.
This is so disappointing…I was looking forward to Season 2. NBC should give it another chance. Too much garbage on TV…it was great to be able to watch TV and learn some hard truths and facts of the Bible.
AD the Bible Continues followed scripture accurately and the cast were awsome in their performances. We watched the entire series. Was looking forward to Season 2. We haven’t watched NBC in years because there was nothing worth while watching before. Guess we won’t be tuning in anymore until something of substance comes on again. NBC’s loss for cancelling this exceptional series.
I agree. I didn’t watch NBC either until AD the Bible Continues. I watched ever episode (schedule my Sundays so that I wouldn’t miss it). The finale had me googling when season 2 would air and that’s when I read the bad news.
It’s a shame they cancelled the show. Theres so much crap on tv . To find a very well written and acted show with God’s message attached to it is rare. I guess the television viewers would rather see a bunch of silly story lines or an excessive amount of violence. That’s unfortunately the world we live in.
Amen to that. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I agree !
A.D. SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN MORE TIME. MYSTERIES OF LAURA DIDN’T DO MUCH BETTER AND IT GOT RENEWED.
SOMESHOWS WHICH WERE NOT GREAT RATINGS WINNERS IN THE BEGINNING EVENTUALLY FOUND ANAUDIENCE AND BEAME RATINGS WINNERS.
I think they should have more christian shows on. We really need to have jesus in our hearts, especially with the way the world has changed over the years. There is way to much violence these days. People need to believe in something, I say jesus is our best bet! So yes I would definitely watch biblical shows and learn how to be a good Christian and try to pass on what I learned.
Actually we are at an all-time low of violence, especially since Jesus’ time. Poverty too is at an all time low: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/10/01/opinion/nicholas-kristof-the-most-important-thing-and-its-almost-a-secret.html?referer=&_r=0
I would rather be born now (or in the future) than any other time in human history.
