As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
They would rather have shows that pollute the world instead of cleaning it up way to go NBC
It s a great series I want it continue.
NBC is the number one network for canceling TV shows ad the Bible continues was a terrific show but NBC would rather show someone sleeping with someone’s wife or two guys making out for greeting people trying to win a million dollars on an island or whatever you get my point the Bible says in the last days good will be evil and evil will be good
People have been saying it is the last days for hundreds of years. It’s no more true now than it was the last few hundred years.
What are you talking about? Your comment has nothing to do with the Series ending!
Read the guy’s comment I replied to.
Great series, sorry it was not appreciated. Great characters. Would love to see season 2.
Unbelievable they cancelled the only GOOD show on TV. VERY disappointing. Such good characters.
Not surprised a national network cancelled a Christian series. I’m sure it was all they could stomach to have one season. Too bad for them. It was a great series enjoyed by my family! I would be glad to pay for a season 2 through an HBO type series or from Amazon.
Very disappointing to know that there won’t be a season 2. It’s sad to note that a lot of viewers prefer shows about terrorism, war, political assassinations, etc. This show is perfect to show the world of God’s greatness and goodness.
I MUST have a 2nd season. I have used the 1st as a small group study in my home. They did such a wonderful job of keeping with scripture & bringing it to life for a new generation.
I am so sad that with such a powerful storyline, script, and keeping with the truth of the bible that nbc canceled. A show so powerful and so good at teaching us the stories of the Bible should continue as long as producers Roma and Mark are willing to share with us. Shame on NBC!
Please bring back Season 2!
Please reconsider bringing back the 2nd season of the Bible AD. It was the best representation of the bible I have ever seen. I was looking so forward to another season. I will pray for your return.
Most sincerely…….

Just found out that Nbc has cancelled the next season of The Bible. Very dissapointed bit not surprised. This country had gone by the way side and it’s tv programs are trashy. I want God in my life so I will keep looking for religious programs
