As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Its an amazing tv show.I will pay for watch the next seasons.it touched my heart and made grow my faith.
I too loved this series!! Well done! Well done! I will continue to watch no matter what channel or DVD. Anxiously awaiting Season 2 & 3!!
I REALLY loved this series it was the highlight of my week. Brilliantly written and acted. It was a blessing to watch TV and at the end had learned something and have love and hope in your heart not just for God but others. I’m disappointed but not surprised. Business and especially TV networks don’t make decisions based what is right, morals and what will make the world / community a better place. It’s about ratings and money period. More people needed to watch the program. I would like to thank NBC for having the courage to air it in… Read more »
Great and wonderful series! If the season 2 comes, I will buy it. The world values are so far of God’s plans.
A.D. The Bible Continues was a excellent program! With so much garbage on TV, it was so nice to have something spiritual, well written (followed the scriptures so well) and well acted. The costumes and sets were spectacular. I am very disappointed that NBC cancelled the series. It was the highlight of my week and my favorite TV show. After watching the whole series, I recently bought it to watch again! I would rather see the new one on TV than online. I have never watched anything online. Have you considered checking with BYUTV? It is a TV station owned… Read more »
Typical American channels, something good is shown but doesn’t cut the ratings pie. So we’ll replace it with some brain dead show about self absorbed celebrities….. No wonder shows coming out of the US are of poor quality, most are aimed at the walking dead in society…
NBC – wake up and smell the roses….
Of course it was cancelled! I am not surprised that a religious show was not renewed. But in generali will not begin any new series as they all seem to get cancelled. This was a beautiful serries. I would definitely purchase the second and future seasons.
I am so disappointed that NBC cancelled the series continuation! What bad form to leave with a cliffhanger and then not pick the story up. I would love to see the next series but would rather watch on TV than online. So I dare NBC to change their mind and present an actually excellent viewing option!
I will pay to watch A.D. The Bible Continues. I will Buy the DVD series. Great Series!!!
#RP Would love a second season, this was the best version of the Bible that I have ever seen on tv. It has been nice to turn on the TV and watch something other than terrorist attacks, political garbage, or what celebrity was caught sleeping around. Religion aside, its nice to show my kids that following the ideas of God will make them a better person to themselves and others.
Let there be a season two!!!!!! I love A.D. great series.
I hope theres a season2 ): love A.D

Please continue this series
I think the show and cast were BRILLIANT….. it should have never, ever been canceled. I say continue with my blessings; maybe the writers need to find a new network…go to Fox, they are a Christian Network!
What makes you say Fox is a Christian Network?
The discussion to cancel A D series is the dumbest thing NBC has done.If we all pray. Maybe KABC the company will pick up where NBC dropped the Show. This is why I watch the network with families in mind. GOD will not be mocked by those who who are the evil little minds will be sent to damnation and those who sided with them the bible tells us to love one another GOD will prevail
The Devil wins the battle to show or not to show and NBC fell into the Devils wishes
