As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Yes! I would definitely follow the show where ever it is shown such as ; Netflix, online, TBS,Daystar, and/or any other place it may goes to
So sad … My husband looked forward to season 2 … He does not like to watch religious shows but this one he liked , I have to say more than like.
I’m so sad to hear that this wonderful mini series has been canceled When season 2 is released on DVD I will definitely purchase it. Thank you to the writers for such an inspirational show.
wow, sad that it wasn’t continued. Excellent historical program full of drama. Is it only programs with pornographic sex scenes that get renewed? Beginning to wonder.
Bad , Bad move NBC A.D. was an awesome TV series and was really looking forward for season 2 . I know rating are very important for television, but A.D. is food for the soul and I’m sure that it has brought people close to God and can help change the life’s of many
I think that A.D. was an absolute marvel and masterpiece of television and just like with Dallas, Banished, Vegas, Deception & No Ordinary Family… we were all robbed of truly beautiful programming which must all be brought back. There’s no question that if returned,I wouldn’t hesitate to watch right away.
Loved the series and fully support a continuation….bought the dvd and feel like I was left hanging. Although I know what happens it is wonderful to see Bible based programs.
Loved the show…I am so sad it was not continued. I would love to watch it on Netflix or Hulu. Please do something!!!
So sad that there not releasing a 2nd season, very upsetting, well gonna look forward whenever the writers/producers make the season 2 available. I will stay tune and see whenever it comes out, please make it as much advertisement as you can! YouTube, Facebook, commercials etc+!! Also I heard of pureflix? Kind of like a Christian Netflix..maybe they would join with them and show their episode there!
So sorry, Love the progra ming.
So Sad…that NBC can’t keep a good program like this, but will continue to show violence, sex etc….My family is very disappointed. My kids 10 and 11 looked forward to each and every episode and are very upset that it will not be on for a second season. Shame on you NBC for not evangelizing the life of our creator.
You got to be kidding…finally something worthy of watching on TV and NBC drops, really, how discouraging. I even brought the DVD which I never do. It was extremely well done. Kudos to the producers and actors. It was great to see God’s Word come alive. Lord knows the world needs it. I have faith that it will continue some how. So, yes, I would pay for such programming…I have.
Very sad. We looked forward to watching each week and were so impressed how the script followed the Bible. We were so looking forward to season 2. Big mistake NBC
Love the show very much well it so much .
Extremely disappointed about the cancellation, loved the series and would
not mind paying to see more inspirational shows like this
