As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
I thought it was a great show! It was very interesting and educational. Should not have cancelled!!!!!!
I’m disappointed, this series was one of the most truthful telling’s of the Bible I’ve seen on television. The writers were bold in their scriptural depiction of the Bible and provided a way to spread the gospel to people who don’t normally read the Bible. I looked forward to seeing it every week. I hope it comes back!
I really enjoyed The Bible AD and I am very disappointed that the next season has been cancelled. If NBC has no plans, hopefully another network will continue with future seasons. I would gladly pay to see the story continue.
So sorry to read AD was cancelled…we looked forward to watching it every week. Please, please bring it back:) Really learned from the show since sometimes the Bible is difficult to interept. Will be waiting.
A.D. the Bible Continues was the best show ever on NBC,,, I am Very disappointed to hear that it was cancelled. I watched every episode more than once. The acting, story and spirit of the movie was phenomenal! Prayerfully it will return as I and many others enjoyed and was blessed by the show every week!
As usual, quality programming is left by the wayside. We enjoyed season 1 internally and have been anxiously waiting the season 2 return. SOMEBODY, please bring it back!
I really loved the movie, A.D and I am really hoping to see season two. When I got to the end of A.D season one on dvd, I was LIKE NO THAT CAN’T BE IT. I will definitely watch season two where ever it becomes aired or I will buy it on dvd. Very good movie.
Grate season!! Loved the show and loved the authentic relation to the bible except a couple give or takes on Scrpture lineups but all and all it was fantastic and how it ended makes it unfair to cancel(: lolol
Disappointed to hear this is cancelled . We need more shows like this ..
This show must go on….. NBC start this show again….
I loved the show and would pay to watch season 2. It was one of many shows that kept me watching TV
I would watch it or even by the DVD. I wish we had an all Christian based Network. NBC their all crazy for not renewing “AD: The Bible Continues.” We should have more shows that inspire Christian Faith, and Jesus’ teachings.
I would pay for dvd or to watch online with original cast
I love that show I will watch on tv internet or dvd
I loved this show and as far as I know the Bible hasn’t ended yet.
