As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Please continue this Show! We will watch for sure! This Show was Amazing.
We watched it as a family. Boys really liked peter, Paul and Cornelius.
Very disappointed,AD the Bible Continues was cancelled. I’m still waiting for the 2nd season. I would definitely see it anyway possible; online, DVD or pay to see the rest.
We just bought the dvd’s and were disappointed as well they will not be airing season 2. We would definitely pay to see season 2.
Maybe the people at Pure Flix company would take up the whole show. People could watch it on Roku.
Art yes. I’ll ask David A R White, on twitter. iIf he has thought about this series at all
Let also pray to The Lord too…
GOD BLESS EVERYONE!!!!
Continue season 2 of AD The Bible Continues. The first season left me wanting more.
Absolutely not. I prefer such shows to the trans they show.
Trans?
NBC sucks. That was such a great show
Yes I would definitely watch it and am not so happy that NBC cancelled it.
NBC somehow never seems to change. They always keeping nonsense and dropping the shows that can be learned from. Makes you ask if they even believe in God. Money is necessary in this world, but it counts for nothing when we see Jesus on that great day. I would have suffered the ratings and a little less financial gain, to spread the message
I LOVED this series and was SO disappointed to see it cancelled. The problem was that it was at the 9:00 PM time slot which conflicted with “The Walking Dead” on AMC and “Game of Thrones” on HBO. Downton Abbey also was at 9:00 PM but that is now finally finished for good. Maybe if “AD The Bible” can come on at 8:00 PM instead they would catch the demographic group of older females like me (57 yrs old) who have to work the next morning and younger viewers who have school the next day.
Jeannine, I dvr the shows, I wonder if these count in the rating?
Also the w dead is a terrible show, and I’m sure Christians don’t watch it..
God bless
I am very disappointed , finally some decent programing and they cancel it.
I really wish this show wasn’t cancelled. I came online to see when season 2 was starting; and see this! I’m disappointed. But NBC has several cop shows, hospital shows, spy shows? Um. Really?? Bad decision.
I was really looking forward to season 2!! Very disappointed in NBC. There is so much trash on NBC and the other networks. I don’t know why everyone wants to see all that reality junk and trashy shows! Oh well. I won’t be watching much TV.
ANN I Won’t be watching nbc anymore either….GOD BLESS
I really liked the show and was anxiously awaiting the next season. I would also pay to watch this series. It is that good.
Very disappointed with NBC. They rather show those God forsaken Cops shows, with its vile content. Shame on them.
Yes I will pay to watch the 2nd season.
I am extremely disappointed that they are not going to bring this back. What is that about leave us hanging and then don’t bring it back. Shame on you NBC
