As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Sad to say but they replace this wholesome Christian show with Lucifer. A show showing Satan the devil trying to do good acts of kindness. Blasphemous and downright evil. But you know what when Jesus comes all will know.
Anytime something worth while comes to television, the forces of darkness, find a way to suppress it. A.D. the Bible continues is the most accurate and well produced representation of the Holy Scriptures ever presented on film. It not only should be renewed, it also should be required television for every person on the planet. Unfortunately your ratings are all some people care about. I pray that The Spirit of the Living God will prevail in the end for the sake of all involved. Someone really dropped the ball on this one, canceling the Best Show ever on television.
I loved the entire series I would like for it to continue
I really enjoyed the show and hope they bring it back. So much bad tv on these days. If it doesn’t have a bunch of gays or cursing or violence then a tv show gets cancelled. Sad that a good religious story can’t be told because of some numbers. People worry about money more than there soul. TV is hurting today’s youths sad NBC couldn’t give good tv to them with this show.
Please give us the second season !! I search everyday for it.
I understand rating is much important to a media . A powerful religious message may won’t help you gain that .. But think about the first epic BIBLE series.. It won many hearts and it was obvious .. And the faith and belief was much pumped in second serious..
A word from your series ” Be strong in your faith” it will give you recognition and much higher ratings in next season .
Do proceed with Season 2.
No harm will happen !
Please brong back AD The Bile Continues
I feel that the series should continue.
NBC is missing out!
I hope.another station steps up!
NBC shame on you for putting ratings and profits above such a powerful message. The world needs Season 2 more than ever! I hope the producers will find a way to continue their good work and bring this project to fruition.
I am so, so disappointed. I kept waiting for A.D. the Bible Continues to come back on. And now that it is Easter Sunday, I am REALLY sad and I pray that God will find a way for the show to continue.
I just watched a.d. series and couldn’t stop watching it, it strengthened my belief and made me realized what how Christians are being persecuted today as like they was in the bible Times. I pray that they will be a second season, God will make way.
I to was waiting on the 2nd part of The AD the Bible to come back on that was really good. And it’s a shame it won’t be back on.
I love the serie. It teach us a lot to those who still doesn’t know anything about Jesus and followers. I was able to compare bible and the serie and I love it. I wish for a second season. God will make it happen. Thanks.
I lost my faith a very long time ago like this alot started to have some faith again then this
This series tells the complete story of Christmas, Easter and Pentecost and what follows and I so looked forward to seeing more. This series cannot end till at least 70 AD. I understand that the authors are finding new avenues to continue and I encourage them to continue. This movie series is an excellent witness to Christ and what he really did. Just showing the crucifixion and resurrection is not enough for the general viewer to fathom. How the gospel empowers us (Acts) is so necessary and to difficult to communicate and this series accomplished that. Roma Downey & Mark… Read more »
