As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
I want to see season 2! So, NBC needs to wise up. Or, running a network which plays the series would be rather great! 🙂
I do hope a second season will be reconsidered even if it goes to a different network
I would like to see the rest of the story .I believe this to be the best told story of the kind. In these days, I feel we all need to be reminded of the return of Jesus Christ. If they wont allow the rest of the story on NBC network t.v., I would surely buy it on DVD.Love the story , and waiting for more.I pray the will continue this on T.V. to reach out to more of an audience and continue to spread the word of Jesus .Amen.
I’m dissapointed to ! I liked the serie very much !
I’m disappointed they canceled the show, and all this time I’ve been looking for the 2nd season. I wish they bring it back.
I am not surprised that this show was cancelled the way the world is today. Christians need to stand up for this type of programming that honors God and shows people how to be saved. But it will only come with Christians praying and standing together for Christ. We need to let the networks know.
I miss the series and would love to see it back and would be willing to pay
Does not surprise me that nbc dropped the series, not enough blood, gore and sex for them, I would definitely pay to see series 2.
I cant believe nbc pulledthe plug on season 2i really enjoyed the miniseries very enlightening and. Very great cast they keep on tv reality tv shows about cheating and drama and this just shows you that this world really does needjesus
I thought it was a wonderful show and am very disappointed to learn it was cancelled.
I don’t believe they cancel it for rates but it wouldn’t put pass they did it because of non believer’s and No they shouldn’t have cancel it for I want to see more about the bible and how it begin and ended. I don’t care about rates for I rather watch a good true TV show that has meaning not be base on how rates or non believer vote on good and true stories. Far as I can see it was a good and true story series and when it was taken off I didn’t want to watch any other… Read more »
just watched the show, and I’m really disappointing that we are not getting a Season 2, especially after this kind of ending
such a great production overall, actors were just spot-on, shame It didn’t get more viewers :/
I would pay any time to watch more
Im so Disappointed for cancelling the next season. Im waiting so long its been one year from now, and all my friends are also excited for the next season. its good for the family spiritual and individually.
Please Im Begging you NBC to continue the next season and for sure the ratings will be high because most of the people watch it already even in DVD only so they are excited also for the next season.
I am extremely disappointed that AD The Bible Continues has been cancelled by NBC. This show was well done and well received by our faith based community. Like others I believe that this was a mistake on the part of NBC which they may well regret down the road. Wholesome shows are sadly lacking in TV show lineups.
I just finished watching the series and am aching for MORE! This was well done and very understandable. YES I would pay to continue watching!! I feel NBC really dropped the ball here and hopefully will later regret it. Please, we want MORE!!!!
I agree I can’t wait for season 2 which I will be buying. It is an amazing series. Love it love it love it
