As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
I understand that ratings play a large role in selecting programming. But just sometimes, it would be nice to see someone take a risk and put a series on which may not get the ratings but will deliver a message of hope for a generation and audience which really needs it. If not NBC, how about another network/channel? Please bring back season 2. I’m waiting with longing and excitement! People need this kind of messaging even if they don’t yet sense that need!
I’m not surprise that hollywood would cancel this show. This world is turning away from anything and anyone who praise God or Jesus. I’m praying as I hope other saints are to bring this wonderful show back. We need this style of entertainment today so desperately.
NBC SHOULD CANCEL. The the ratings, I believe are skewed due to all the political coverage!!X
I was so hoping that session 2 would come back on! I loved the story and it really kept to Jesus/God teachings. Please bring it back and I loved ALL the actors and actresses on the show, they really showed true emotions! Bring it back PLEASE!!
I am very disappointed. You rarely see movies like this. Some people can’t read the bible and A.D. Bible… helps them to understand the Bible. I bought the video because I enjoyed the movie. I wasn’t aware that the series was canceled. Please continue with the mini series. It blessed me in so many ways Please reconsider.
It is very unfortunate that the powers that are decided to cancel this Historic and Faith based miniseries. So many people’s lives were touched and changed naturally and supernaturally when the superb cast played the roles from the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (BIBLE) that we can have the faith to hope and continue to Love.
I loved this show. Didn’t realize until now that it had been cancelled. I found that AD: The Bible Continues to actually hold more closely to the scriptures than the preceding shows. I hope to see the series continue if they are as well done as this series was.
This show was wonderful and I watched every episode and am crushed to find out that NBC (which was my favorite network) cancelled the next season. I hope the online network is able to produce the shows but I would definitely rather watch them on our big screen television.
I loved this show and was anxious for season 2. Word was spreading on how great it was. NBC you should not have canceled. I would hope you would reconsider. I had never seen a show that covered the later lives of all the followers. I would at least hope that a cable channel would grab it. Until AD The Bible Continues aired I had never watched NBC.
yes I would watch season 2 . Hope the new season will play on the new cable channel
Please show 2nd season of AD the Bible Continues I loved this series can we purchase DVDs . This is really sad, the shows that are full of horror or ones with gays are played but not one about the Lord. That’s a shame I am an avid Nbc fan. May have to check out different station
Was anxiously waiting for season-2 ,its the best show to watch as it tells us how christianity came into existence, please try your best to film the season-2 even if its possible to make it available on dvd ……thanks
Yes I would buy it and watch it online I have bought the DVD of the first season and have been passing it to all my family members to watch so inspiring and moving as well as spirit feeling shame on NBC this is one of the best bible stories to me please bring back season 2.
R. This is about the word of God not about who can act or not and why R. Dont you have a name
Absolutely we would watch the next series! We were anxiously waiting for the Easter season so we could see the continuation. Very disappointed to read that the network didn’t want to run it. It was a quality prorgram, and closely paralleled the bible. We have purchased the series and have watched it many times over. I would encourage the production of season 2….please!!! If not on nbc, then produce it for the public to purchase!
To: NBC To: Those who made comments To: Our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ-by NO OTHER NAME may we be SAVED! Jesus on the cross said, “Father (GOD of ALL CREATION) forgive them (All those who crucify me, past, present, and future) for they KNOW NOT what they do.” This series is vital to life- vitality is not found in ratings, money, fame, prestige, privileges, notoriety, or even in the sensationalism the world fascinated with power, death, and greed cannot satisfy in its hunger. We ALL live under a curse that we all have heard about from childhood: it’s not… Read more »
