As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
I just started watching this and yes please bring this TV Series back!!! I mean it’s very educational and It is real. Season 2 needs to be released!!!!
I was so looking forward to season 2. Yes I would watch it on TV, online or purchase dvds. It truly inspired me! So disappointed they were unable to continue the series – but thank you to Roma and Mark, it was truly amazing!
In network should never cancel the show without giving closer to that show. It makes people not want to begin watching when other series begin. They should have came back for the second season and found an episode that would have given some closure and been a good place to stop.
It would be wonderful to have season 2 available.
yes, please
Please continue with AD the bible continues, we need more faith based programming. Many need to watch and hopefully pique interest in the bible and Jesus Christ.
I agree Dayla
I really hope the producers are given the opportunity to film and broadcast season 2 as having watched the first season I was firstly extremely impressed at the incredibly high quality of filming and acting but also felt in the main it presented a very powerful portrayal of THE most popular story of all time and this production is with out a doubt one of the best ways of retelling the truth the world needs to know of.
I agree very strongly
Need to bring back for those that have lost their way.

Yes please please bring it back! We have so little to watch as engaging as this series was …… it could easily pull even non believers in….. and isn’t that just what we are called to do
BRING back the show, This mini series was GREAT. This show could bring others to CHRIST and Bring others closer to our LORD . There are other programs on television that don’t teach good morals. These mini series are trying to teach our children about our Lord Jesus Christ. We all need to do our part in bring people to Christ, Let do our part and fight to keep programs on air that teach our children , not hurt them
