As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Awaiting season 2. Enjoyed every bit of season 1. Helped to visualize the struggle of our ancestors that is often overlooked. Hope to see the next season come out soon.
I was looking forward to seeing season 2. Disappointed that theres not. There is no greater love than the love God not only offers but gives you when you don’t deserve not one bit of it. This show was not only inspirational but shows the full character of Jesus which is loving, comforting and although God has the right to judge me and everybody else, he loves us anyway. What a mighty, powerful and loving God I serve!!
looking forward to season 2… God bless the authors & writers behind this film. Don’t be afraid with the ratings, trust God.
I will wait for the next season this is very important and worth to watch

I would love to see the second season ! We were glued to our seats during season 1, we had to pace ourselves not to watch too many episodes per night. Cant wait for season 2 !
the show wasn’t bad at all, a bit overplay sometime but enjoyable, ONE only VERY disturbing matter though WHY in heaven, did they cast a Black African actor to play John and mary magdalena (and other)??? it claims to be historically accurate though so ?? Why? this is so untrue ans=d worse, hypocritical… who would beleive there were sub saharien jews at that time??? (is there any now? (appart from ethiopians whom dosn’t look at all like that)
Absolutely loved this series – has made me consider the lives and times of all the main individuals of this period of time in a new way. I found it challenging, enlightening and emotional and cant imagine how anyone who would watch the first episode would fail to watch the others. Please find a way to bring us a second series.
POWERFUL and INSPIRING to say the least I loved every min of it JESUS IS LORD, I pray and hope by faith that they continue on with production so that true BELIEVERS can enjoy and share and pass on the GOOD NEWS IN CINEMATIC FORM..
Please show the second season of AD The Bible Ontinues.
I’ve watched season 1 two times. It was brilliant in story, and acting.
It truly inspired my faith.
Thank you to all.
Sincerely,
Joyce Kruse

Season 1 was really awesome and I’m hoping for season 2. Please start making season 2
The way episode 12 ends leaves such a huge hole. I am looking for episode 13 and 14 and cannot find anything.
It is ”unfinished business” and NBC should definitely not leave it that way.Totally unprofessional of them. One of the best series I have watched after Zeffirelli ‘s Jesus of Nazareth
Please let there be a season two of this series! I loved it and have been so excited for the second season to come out!
