As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
Please have A.D. The Bible Continues Season 2,
Anxiously waiting for season 2
Please continue Season 2. The producers based this on the Bible facts. I really wish and pray you will continue this…but praying for the Covid situation to disappear first…:-(
This show is amazing, please please provide a season 2! We were very disappointed when finding out there is no season 2, especially as the end of season 1 is very abrupt. Casting is perfect as well, the actors are so well suited for the job and in general very good acting.
I am so disappointed to find out there’s no season 2. I thoroughly enjoyed season 1. I found it to be quite accurate as I had my bible close by at all times. Please let me know if you can some way allow it on Netflix like season 1.
In these uncertain days we are living, watching this series brings back hope and faith to our world. It made us understand and live the biblical life. The way the season ended clearly shows that should be a second season. Production should resume and this work should be released. God bless all the efforts put in season 1, and we urge all the concerned to initiate the production of season 2 if the script is ready. May we watch it soon
Please reconsider. At times like this we need shows were humanity had hope and overcame our worst challenges.
Please. At times like this we could use hope like season
2 can provide. Please rethink your decision.
Why in the world would you cancel such a beautiful thing I am so disappointed.
Disappointed to see no completion of the series “A.D.” I really enjoyed it and it helped me understand events I had read about in the bible better. I think I spent 8 hours watching it today on Easter. Good job and I hope to see more in the near future. God bless you all for your efforts. Rose
I was watching the 12 part series of A.D. The Bible Continues. During theses pandemic times this mini-series was important to give Hope to many that don’t know Jesus. I am very disappointed with ABC to cancel Series ll, just because their ratings of the mini series were not up to par. Shame on them. As a Christian the Bible speaks the truth and we are definitely in the last days. The Coronavirus is noting to what’s coming according to Bible Prophecy. The World needs Hope and A.D. The Bible Continues gave that Hope for Man kind. We have never… Read more »
Well so disappointed…i have literally binged on season 1…i couldnt stop watching it. Could be argued that even now they silence the bible or is it just politics and funding. I love to know why they cancelled it.
I hope there would be Season 2, I enjoyed watching and learned the story after Lord Jesus’ resurrection…the life of the Apostles…
Why cancel a Season 2? First season was riveting – great to see the story from so many points of view. I was gutted to learn that it was not being continued. You cannot leave something like this with so many unfinished loose ends. Please make a Season 2.
I looked everywhere for Season 2 only to find out that it was cancelled…. I really wish Season 2 was out. Season 1 was a great series, we watched it our girls.
