Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

It is very disappointing that the writers of the series would leave a season open ended. I found season one to be great with some great performances with actors I have seen in other shows and movies and was looking forward to season 2. If for no other reason ITV should have a finale to complete the show and not leave fans unhappy. Not a full season if the ratings are so low but atleast finish it off and not leave things hanging. Such a shame as the first series was great.
I thinks they should renew it. It was very smartly done. The actors did a fabulous job and the story was quite interesting. Renew it.. Why do you put shows on and than take them off. Bring it back.
Hi im from Norway and i just finished watching season 1 and i really liked this show and wondered when season 2 was coming, just to find out that it got cancelled, like other shows like Sleepy hollow and emerald city 🙁 It has great potential and should definitely be picked back up !!! Please bring it back!!!

I think they should have made a final series and released them on DVD.
Why cancel such a brilliant show , really enjoyed watching it. Bring it back ,most programmes need a series under there belt before people really get into them give it a chance.

I liked it we accidently stumbled on a marathon and watch the whole 13 episode all at once. I could stop watching it. I hope they bring it back!
