Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
While I look forward to seeing Cedar Cove characters in new settings, especially Christmas movies, the best place for them is all together in Cedar Cove. As another fan said, at least a 2 hour closure. Please consider the suggestion for all the adoring fans.
just checking to see when Cedar Cove would be on again and found out it’s cancelled! really enjoyed watching it every week. great characters and location. please Hallmark reconsider and bring it back on or at least have a final episode. reading all the comments posted and, they say so few were watching…..
So disappointed with Hallmark. I watch the channel daily, but the movies are so much the same, same, same. Cedar Cove was a refreshing change. I looked forward to the summer for Cedar Cove to start again. Just like Men in Trees, another great series has vanished. Who makes these decisions? So disappointed.
My husband and I were just having a discussion about when this series would continue…imagine my disappointment when we looked this up and saw it was cancelled! Maybe we “outside” folk don’t understand a lot, but we deserved something better than just a “cancellation” notice, Hallmark!
It’s very disappointing to get so involved in a series thats only on one time a year for such a short time, and have it end with so many on answered questions. There is so little on TV now a days that is good tv.Iam not a big fan of these half hour stupid sitcoms so thank you very much once again for taking off another good TV series.
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove has been cancelled! So aggravating when people watch a series and there is no closure. There should at least be a follow-up special, perhaps a 2-hour movie.
I’m so disappointed that cedar cove is cancelled ! It’s my summer to look forward to the show ! There is so much junk on tv … It was a refreshing show ! Please reconsider having it come back !!
Cedar Cove was one of the best shows that Hallmark had am very disappointed they have canceled it. I hope you will reconsider your decision.Might be changing my mind about Hallmark being a great channel to watch.
I agree. It’s as thought networks want to dumb it down and put tasteless garbage on instead of a quality program like Cedar Cove.
Of course Cedar Cove should be renewed and given another chance. It was the most awesome series for Hallmark and all our fans are disappointed. Why would you cancel such a fantastic and successful series? Please bring them back!
So sad to hear this show has been cancelled. Please bring it back! It was such a great show. My kiddo could be in the room when I watched it and I didn’t have to worry (he’s 6)
Loved Cedar Cove. It should have not left us hanging. Why not bring back a season 4 and tie up loose ends???
I loved the show and scenery! It was a great family oriented program with wonderful acting! Please bring it back!!!
Please don’t cancel Cedar Grove. Great show, but Hallmark makes it very hard to find (know when it is on/returning.
I really enjoyed Cedar Cove. This is my opinion, just like all good series that comes along the first season is great then the show starts bringing so many different characters and story lines the viewer can’t keep track of them all. It completely ruins the show. New characters and story lines are good but not when two or three are thrown at us every week. The person responsible for this type of action should be fired…..you’ve spoiled what started out to be a hit show and like the ones in the past, they’re cancelled.
Please bring this series back! Give it another chance. It was the best series on TV.
