Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I can understand the decline of viewership for this series, but Hallmark should give a decent burial! It was intriguing in the beginning but then it becomes just more of the same responses, selfish, narcissistic and NOT real life, unless these people never sleep and have independent wealth. And does Andie’s expressions always have to be so dire? She finally gets Jack in an honest, open place, tells him she supports his more than full time job running a major newspaper, but then she wants more. UM??? Not real life! And these people are how old? They’re acting like teenagers.… Read more »
I was So Disappointed Cedar Cove was cancelled. I looked forward to watching it every week. The scenery and small town setting was delightful. I hope it will be brought back to continue indefinitely!
Not fair that Cedar Cove was canceled. Need to bring it back.
I would LOVE to see a season four and beyond! I absolutley adore this series!! What a let down to get to the end of season 3 and find out that is it. The scenery, characters, actors, script is all magical!!
A show like Cedar Cove becomes part of the family. Can’t say I didn’t know it was going to end after Season 3 because I streamed it on Netflix. My wife and I were really disappointed when it ended. So many loose ends. Would love to be watching the start of Season 4 tonight. Too bad more people don’t discover a show like this. Compared to most of the other things on TV this was a real gem.
I absolutely loved this series and am sooooo disappointed it was cancelled. I’ve been watching it again on Netflix. I think leaving the audience hanging, not knowing what happens to the characters was really bad taste on the part of Hallmark. Especially with the final moment between Olivia and Paul. I have no desire to watch the same actors play different characters in different series. Please bring back Cedar Cove.
So very disappointed to see Cedar Cove end… I loved it… I actually cried:(
Oh my goodness my friends and I just realized Cedar was cancelled. How can we commit to future story lines when you are not going to properly end so many story lines. You could do a view shows to give closure. Please rethink this cancellation. Thank you.
bring back cedar cove least to give a ending instead of the way it was left with so many questions
this was a show with great meaning and is needed in our turbulent times
thank you
I have just finished watching all three seasons on Netflix and am very sad to learn there will not be a 4th season. I watch many of your movies, but never remember seeing this show promoted. I think if you have ratings problems, you should look at the business side of your network.
I feel it is very important that the Hallmark Channel produces the 4th season of Cedar Cove to bring its fans closure you cannot simply just stop and leave us wondering. It’s like rating a series of books and you lose the last book it’s simply Dreadful and unfair thank you for listening.
Sincerely Laura rice
Very disappointed by the cancellation of Cedar Cove. I don’t think it is a lack of ratings. Rather, Hallmark’s move to appeal to a younger audience. Look what happened to Cristina Ferrare.
Unfortunate decision to cancel Cedar Cove.
Our friends and family no longer watch Hallmark’s Home & Family. Cannot tolerate those phoney hosts with their plastic smiles and forced sense of humor. Normal people don’t act like they do. Comes off very weird and strange. Christina Ferrare was a classy, experienced hostess with charm and a high likability personality.
I love Cedar Cove I am beyond disappointed. Please being back it is such a wonderful wholesome show.
They need to bring Cedar Cove back!! It was a really good series and I don’t know why it was cancelled! Good writing great directing and awesome actors. It had everything going for it! I don’t know why they had to let it go! It was clean and engaging and that is so rare these days!
Please tell us how we can get this out back on! Thank you!
I started watching this on Netflix only to find out it ended in three seasons so I decided to stop watching as I had already watched three episodes. But I couldn’t resist watching the remaining episodes now I’m left with heartache because there is no more Cedar Cove. This was a great show.
I agree, I have been wondering what happened to Cedar Cove and finally found this message. I strongly dislike it when I become interested in a show that a family can watch, then it just disappears without closure.
When a series is offered on netflix or other streaming source, you need to let viewers know that the series ends without finishing the story.
It is so disappointing to end like cedar cove.
I wonder if anyone from Hallmark even reads these complaints.
