Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I just finished watching the final episode of season 3 and all I can say why? So many unanswered questions. There needs to be a follow up movie or something to fill in the gaps. I am very disappointed in the way it ended. I’m disappointed in the Hallmark channel and the way the ended this show. It was a great show and I really enjoyed it.
I just finished watching all the episodes and am so sad that there wasn’t at least a 4th season (and more). What a wonderful sh0w with such neat characters. I will definitely miss these people who have found a place in my heart!
I just watched all episodes on Netflix and really enjoyed them. I have read all the
books. What a shame it has ended with so many unanswered questions. Hallmark should be ashamed!
I absolutely loved this series! So disappointed that it just ended so suddenly, with so many unanswered questions. I agree, that at least have a finale to finish the story.
I think at the very least there should be a final special to answer all the unanswered questions.
How can Hallmark leave their audience with NO ending to Cabot cove. Life has an ending. It is very disappointing to watch three seasons and to read that there will be no season 4. I think you should rethink your decision, as Hallmark has left “a very bad taste in the mouth” to their faithful audience who EXPECTED an ending with no thought that there would be no season 4 from Hallmark!
It was cancelled because it got stuck with the Colin Ferguson story line. People were sick of him. I know I stopped watching because of his story line, he needed to go!
my husband and I just found and binge watched Cedar Cove and could not believe that it ended so abruptly . It left us wanting more . It was a wonderfully written and acted story .
I just binge watched all the episodes in a week on Netflix… of course I LOVED them! Where can I find some sort of an ending? Are there books? It was refreshing to find a show that wasn’t filled with filth, crime, and that icky feeling most hour long programs give me. So sad there will be no other episodes. I LOVED the characters!!!
the whole thing is a book series, you can read it all
There is a whole series of books. Check your local library. Debbie Marcomber is a wonderful author and has other books too.
it should have a 4th season to end what happend, or at least a season finale in some way, do not agree with leaving it were it was at
I have actually watched all three seasons twice, I read the book series, then watched it the first time, then read the series again, with my Mom, so I watched the all three again with her, we both loved it!
I think they should have had season 4, so they could actually have an ending or at least tied up the loose ends!
I miss Cedar Cove. I’d love it to come back.
We love Cedar Cove! We are watching season 3 and already missing season 4. We’re starting to look for other productions with these people in them. Please give us more! And more! Thanks for the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful town and it’s delightful characters.
I’m really sad to hear there won’t be a season 4. It seems quite a few shows have done this…and just leave fans “hanging”.
I adored Cedar Cove, and had hoped Hallmark would continue with Debbies follow up series, Rose Harbor Inn. I loved reading both of the series and was excited to see it and my favorite characters come to life. Bring it back!!!!
