Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I would like to see Netflix pickup the series, or at least have a movie to wrap up the loose ends.
I just finished the 3rd season on Netflix. I agree with Anne Douglas that there could be a special episode to wrap up the show. This show is a breath of fresh air from all the violence, sex and drugs on TV today. Definitely left me wanting more!
There should at least be a movie to bring finality to the series.
Just finished the 3rd season on Netflix and I want more!!
I wish I could see the great characters wrap up their story.
We need a 4th season of Cedar Cove. There is too much left unanswered.
Cedar Cove should be renewed, biggest problem with the scripted series is that before the beginning of new season they don’t rerun full season so old & new fans can get caught up and begin faithful watching. I will not start a new series without seeing from beginning and I believe that is the reason for declining viewers instead of increasing viewership. Hallmark please take our advice & bring back.
I agree with “The Catch Fan” they should have play the reruns before each new series.
There is not one negative remark about this show! Bring back Cedar Cove…it’s what this world needs, good old fashioned feel good programs, that teach morals, values, family and the importance of education!!! I thought Hallmark was all about bringing those things back to TV but I guess like everyone else, it’s the bottom dollar that’s important:-((((
I think it should be renewed for Season 4. I enjoy the continuing episodes and find them most entertaining. The Cast is great and all seem to blend. It was a great story.
I just got through watching all three seasons of Cedar Cove and can’t believe I was left hanging!!!! This was an incredible show and can’t believe it got cancelled! I’m so disappointed:(. Bring it back please!!!!!!!!! Or tell me if the book series picks up where the show left off? This show was a feel good wonderful show!!
I loved Cedar Cove and am very disappointed it isn’t coming back! I hope you have a change of heart!!
Would love it to continue for more seasons
Should have never took this show off really seems like every time I start loving a show they take it off!! Sux!!
I really enjoyed all 3 seasons. In fact I own all 3 on DVD. I don’t like how we are left hanging though. After the wedding. I really don’t like the fact that just because there weren’t that many people watching as the first season they had to cancel the show. It ruins it for the 1.67 million that enjoyed it.
That is just so very sad.
Very disappointed to have this great show cancelled. It would have been nice for Hallmark to post a synopsis of season 4 tieing up the lose ends and not leaving the viewers hanging. Hallmark usually does a great job but cancelling this show without offering a conclusion episode has left me very disappointed and makes me think management does not value their viewers interests.
Agree!!
Definitely agree!!!!
Cedar Cove had such good characters and was my favorite show to escape to. Please bring it back!
