Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I’m very disappointed there won’t be a season 4. Can’t you release it on netflix or something?
I’m not happy it’s cancelled .
I loved this show nice to see a tv show without guns and violence; blood shed
A nice family show like we use to have on tv as I was growing up.
Kids need to see how life is like without the violence.
Please bring the show back on the air .
I am not a happy camper about Cedar Cove being cancelled. My husband and I loved every season of the show and was looking forward to another great season. So disappointed in Hallmark Channel canceling it.
So disappointed this show not coming back. One of the few shows that my husband and I enjoyed together. So disgusted every time we get involved with a show its cancelled. Can understand why so many people are cancelling the cable provider and going with Netflix. Does anyone even read these comments because if they did they would see what a great following these shows have by the comments and bring these shows back before everyone gets disgusted and jumps ship to Netflix and maybe then the networks will finally listen.
Very disappointed. Cedar Cove was a family show without killings and sex. Why let everyone hanging? Turned me off to watching the Hallmark Ch. you never know when your favorite show will end.
Sooooo disappointing. Great cast & story lines. Why cancel due to a drop in viewing. Give the show a chance to find its audiance.
So disappointed it won’t be returning to Hallmark. I loved this show. I’ve watched every season. ☹
So disappointed. I really looked forward to watching this show. Why stop?
Oh noooo! Please don’t cancel. I record every episode so I can enjoy the show on Sunday mornings with my coffee! This is my all time favorite show!
No! I just saw that this is cancelled. Not cool. Please reconsider!!!!!
Seriously ? Why cancel? This was a fantastic show and very few Hallmark that I looked forward too! This was a wonderful cast and crew, excellent story line. I am so bummed :(. Bad call… Please bring it back!
I just found out that season 4 is not happening and I cannot tell you how sad and disappointed I am. The characters have become family to all of us and we feel so let down. It makes no sense at all to let something end just because it was showing a lower viewing audience than the season before. It was very minimal…what a cop-out.
It’s hows like this why I subscribed to Hallmark Channel. This was a great show with great scenery – I have been waiting anxiously for season four so after some research I found it’s been canceled . I’m so disappointed! It would’ve been nice to have some closure any chance it will come back ? That’s the worst feeling to be left hanging and not know what happened to everyone .
Give us a conclusion!!!!!
REALLY??!! It was bad enough for your faithful viewers to wait endlessly between each season, but now, just like that, canceling Cedar Cove????? It was one of Hallmark’s best series. It was lovely to escape to Cedar Cove once a week. Refreshing, light, a feel good show with an excellent cast. Also, to cancel it without a finale lacks respect & consideration to the Hallmark viewers. What a pity!! To think Hallmark was my favorite channel to watch…..Hmmmmm.
