Last month, CBS execs ordered six additional scripts for new medical drama Code Black. They apparently won’t be needing one of them. The network has now decided to produce five more episodes, bringing the first season tally to 18 installments.
Code Black takes place in an Emergency Room in Los Angeles where underfunding and understaffing pile huge pressure on its staff. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Raza Jaffrey, Bonnie Somerville, Melanie Chandra, William Allen Young, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, and Luis Guzman.
Per the live + same day ratings, Code Black has been averaging a 1.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.92 million viewers. The Wednesday night drama is the network’s 13th highest rated scripted series (out of 18) in the key demo.
Here’s their announcement:

Keep code black going great series !!
Keep Code Black on the schedule. Finally a real life ER drama that deals with the lives of the patients and not the sexual antics or personal life drama of the doctors and nurses.
This is maybe the best show I have seen in years. I have gotten completely bored with Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and several others. Just as with NCIS and other shows in that series, there is something that gets my attention and makes me want to know more about the characters. I do use a dvr and time shift due to work schedule and other things, but I find myself going to my recording of Code Black before almost any other show. I tried to watch some of the other ER, fire, and police series, but Code Black is the only… Read more »

Keep it. Awesome show especially with daddy and mama. Great cast
It took me awhile to actually tune in. Not much advertizing during prime time. But once I started watching through Amazon (got caught up) It has become my favorite medical drama. It is truer to life than other prime series. And the acting & story lines keep me watching. The characters seem to grow in strengths & weakness making you love the depths of each one. The actual medical staffing usedin filming adds to the reality of the show. Love it! LOVE IT!!
