Marvel’s Agent Carter drew low ratings and was cancelled but star Hayley Atwell was often praised for her work on the series. Now, she has a new TV show on ABC called Conviction and the network has given it Castle’s old timeslot. Is this new TV series worth watching? Cancel or keep it?
A legal drama series, Conviction follows what happens when attorney Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the daughter of a former President, gets “blackmailed” into joining the Conviction Integrity Unit. It’s a NYC department that re-examines cases when there is suspicion of wrongful conviction. The rest of the cast includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
The series launched on October 3rd and attracted a 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.17 million viewers. It was a disappointing start to be sure. The second installment fell more than 15%, registering a 0.78 rating with 4.23 million.
While it’s still early in the season, the ratings for Conviction so far have been terrible. It’s the network’s lowest-rated series in the demo with a 0.85 rating and 4.7 million. Last season, Castle (which was cancelled) averaged a 1.08 in the demo with 6.20 million viewers.
Unless the numbers for Conviction improve quickly, it looks certain that the legal drama will be cancelled and may not even be allowed to finish out its 13 episodes.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Conviction TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or kept on the air to give the audience a chance to find it? Is it a better show than the ratings seem to indicate?
What a boring show, acting is poorly done; these shows are all the same on ABC network drama.
this show has the potential to succeed as long as the cast grows with the show.
It’s a great show, it deserves to at least have the full season aired. The time slot is not that great, it deserves a chance for people to find it
Obviously my tastes are different than that of most viewers. I find this show more entertaining than many others on TV.
I’m really trying to like this show – but the characters are so annoying…you can’t like any of them!
part of that is the beauty of it 🙂
Keep this show please but will you get rid of the show the view because now that most of us viewers are morally outraged over recent comments and the criticism from the First Lady shows she is disgusted and appalled that woopi supports a child rapist and she and Raven support Bill Cosby
Love this show, I can’t understand why ratings are low. The only thing I would change is bring Josh Hopkins on n get rid of the actor playing Haley’s boss.
I knew it! Just as sure as I love a show I read its rating are low. This show is different from any other TV show on today. I find that very refreshing plus the acting is great.
Three episodes in Conviction is improving greatly from its pilot episode. Hayley Atwell is superb as Hayes Morrison. Your never certain what Hayes Morrison is going to say next. I am beginning to like Eddie Cahill’s, Conor Wallace, a lot. He seems to genuinely care for the troubled Hayes, and he seems to be a fair man trying to make sure that justice is served. Shawn Ashmore, as Sam Spencer, is developing a layered performance. The rest of the cast is developing nicely. Hayes’ faceoffs with her mother, Bess Armstrong, sizzle with regret, and unspoken affection. I look forward to… Read more »
Keep it – we just got caught up with the season!
I am a fan. I hope that it isnt cancelled.
A great show. It caught my attention with the pilot. please give people a chance to find it.
Cancel it, bad acting and a worse plot.
Finally a show that isn’t about over zealous cops or miracle doctors. Love Haley Atwell. Give this show a chance.
I love this show! Makes me sad that it’s doing so poorly in ratings.
