Marvel’s Agent Carter drew low ratings and was cancelled but star Hayley Atwell was often praised for her work on the series. Now, she has a new TV show on ABC called Conviction and the network has given it Castle’s old timeslot. Is this new TV series worth watching? Cancel or keep it?
A legal drama series, Conviction follows what happens when attorney Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the daughter of a former President, gets “blackmailed” into joining the Conviction Integrity Unit. It’s a NYC department that re-examines cases when there is suspicion of wrongful conviction. The rest of the cast includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
The series launched on October 3rd and attracted a 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.17 million viewers. It was a disappointing start to be sure. The second installment fell more than 15%, registering a 0.78 rating with 4.23 million.
While it’s still early in the season, the ratings for Conviction so far have been terrible. It’s the network’s lowest-rated series in the demo with a 0.85 rating and 4.7 million. Last season, Castle (which was cancelled) averaged a 1.08 in the demo with 6.20 million viewers.
Unless the numbers for Conviction improve quickly, it looks certain that the legal drama will be cancelled and may not even be allowed to finish out its 13 episodes.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Conviction TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or kept on the air to give the audience a chance to find it? Is it a better show than the ratings seem to indicate?
Keep the show
Great Show. Hayley Atwell is a great lead actress for the role of Hayes Morrison. Very good story line, cleaver dialogue, original and different. The shows excellent writing underscores the name of the show and the multiple-meaning of lines and character interaction.
Eddie Cahill is also a great casting choice for this show.. Like Atwell — Cahill delivers and carries the show. Another Tom Selleck.!!!
Definitely KEEP the show, Conviction.
Castle who? Conviction is a fantastic replacement for Castle.
Love it. Please don’t cancel!
Please don’t cancel the show. We love Haley Atwell and have been enjoying the show?
This show hurts my pancreas. I started to watch it because I know from prior work that the actors, especially Haley do have talent. But I switched it off half way through episode 4. The writing is lazy and uninspired, it is simply cookie-cutter TV by-the-numbers and I wont be bothering watching it any more.
Do NOT cancel this show. Sheesh! I am SO tired of the slam-bang-thank-you-ma’am approach to new shows. Give this show a chance. It’s got a great premise, a wonderful lead — I love, love, love Hayley Atwell — and real promise in terms of character development. Lastly, you broadcast networks, it’s too soon for you to break my heart again. I adored “Agent Carter” and was really crushed when it wasn’t given a third season. One more thing: I’m sick and tired of shows that turn people’s integrity inside out. I don’t watch “Scandal” and I don’t watch that “Murder”… Read more »
Keep the show going, Love it!!!
Love this show! Please don’t cancel it!
Love the show and Hayley Atwell!!! But really miss her English accent.
I love this show! It shouldn’t be cancelled! The network needs to take in consideration that people are super busy now! Not “busy” like it used to be! I rarely get a chance to watch TV but when I do I like watching these shows! Don’t cancel it please!
LOVE IT KEEP IT
I love this show it’s different and I enjoy all the different cases. The character man are great and I hope that this shoe can be continued.
Hayley Atwell is great as former First Daughter, Hayes Morrison. Your never sure what she will say or do next. The first three episodes find her testing her Conviction Integrity Unit — finding out how each member responds to conflict, scrutiny, and pressure. As a unit the CIU will likely find itself confronting a lot of pressure from law enforcement, other elements of the district attorneys office, politicians, the press, and the public in the course of its investigations. I look forward to finding out about each member and the cases they take on.
Its no Castle for sure! Couldn’t keep my attention so I turned it back over to Timeless which has become my new Monday night FAVORITE show!!! I can’t see it lasting, but I’ve been wrong before…….not usually though.
Please keep the show. I love watching it and find it intriguing.
