Marvel’s Agent Carter drew low ratings and was cancelled but star Hayley Atwell was often praised for her work on the series. Now, she has a new TV show on ABC called Conviction and the network has given it Castle’s old timeslot. Is this new TV series worth watching? Cancel or keep it?
A legal drama series, Conviction follows what happens when attorney Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the daughter of a former President, gets “blackmailed” into joining the Conviction Integrity Unit. It’s a NYC department that re-examines cases when there is suspicion of wrongful conviction. The rest of the cast includes Eddie Cahill, Shawn Ashmore, Merrin Dungey, Emily Kinney, Manny Montana, and Daniel Franzese.
The series launched on October 3rd and attracted a 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.17 million viewers. It was a disappointing start to be sure. The second installment fell more than 15%, registering a 0.78 rating with 4.23 million.
While it’s still early in the season, the ratings for Conviction so far have been terrible. It’s the network’s lowest-rated series in the demo with a 0.85 rating and 4.7 million. Last season, Castle (which was cancelled) averaged a 1.08 in the demo with 6.20 million viewers.
Unless the numbers for Conviction improve quickly, it looks certain that the legal drama will be cancelled and may not even be allowed to finish out its 13 episodes.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Conviction TV show? Do you think that it should be cancelled or kept on the air to give the audience a chance to find it? Is it a better show than the ratings seem to indicate?
So disappointed every time I find a show interesting it is cancelled.
My husband and I love the show and hope they keep it!
I have just watched this on sky box sets in the U.K. I thought it was brilliant and would have watched it live if I had seen it advertised anywhere. Please do another series
Please keep the show, finally an excellent program with an awesome cast , the cases were really interesting. How cool the way they break every case down, a great show!!
Please keep this show
I really enjoy this show. I think it’s one of the smartest shows on the air. The cast is great too. I think it may be too intelligent for people.
I enjoy this show. Maybe it is its time slot. I like the premise of the show. I find it interesting. It should be renewed and definitely not cancelled.
I love this show, it has a great cast and wonderful acting, one of this year’s best
it should not be cancelled
I love this show. I am a big fan of Hayley Atwell and I enjoyed the premise of the show. And I loved the latest episode when her and Cahill hooked up in the hotel. I hope it is not cancelled.
I love Conviction! Maybe the average viewer could follow the storyline better if the dialogue wasn’t delivered as if they’re on their way to a fire! (Too Fast!) The only reason I can think of for the low ratings are that maybe it’s “too intellectual” (That’s one of the things I like about it) or viewers just haven’t found it yet. Give it time! Please!
Atwell is good, as are most of the cast. Atwell’s back story – rich kid given second chance is a bit crass and her ‘relationship’ with Cahill is toe-curling at best. Ditch him, concentrate on the cases and you should get better ratings….personally speaking….
Keep it
I absolutely love theach TV show Conviction. I hope they don’t cancel this show.
I really like the show. It’s the only show I watch on Monday evenings.
I love the show. Hasn’t had a chance yet for most people.
