Kim Todd, the president of Canada-based Original Pictures, has confirmed that the youth drama Falcon Beach has been cancelled after two seasons. The series airs on ABC Family in the U.S. and Global in Canada.
The cancellation comes as a result of ABC Family’s decision to pass on a third season of Beach. Without the financial support of the cable channel, continued production isn’t possible. Todd says that Global offered to pick it up for a third season but at a significantly lower cost than before.
Strangely enough, Beach is being cancelled despite being quite popular. The show’s audience is made up of predominantly 12 to 17 year old girls. Unfortunately, the series failed to attract many outside of that age group and ABC Family wanted a broader demographic; i.e. 18 to 49 viewers.
The cancellation wasn’t a shocker to Todd who said, “You’re never surprised by what happens in series television, because the winds of change blow quickly and forcefully.” That doesn’t make the end result any easier, personally or professionally. Todd lamented, “So nothing is surprising, but it’s still extremely disappointing. In order to produce a television series, you have to invest so much of yourself into the process… And now we have to tell the cast and crew, and that’s disappointing, too, because we’re not the only ones who put their blood and sweat into this.”
Many citizens of the shoreside Lake Winnipeg town will miss Beach as well because it provided great exposure for the town and attracted visitors — from as far away as Japan. The town’s local mayor and restaurant owner Daryl Carry was told of the cancellation on Friday and said, “We’ve had tourists here every summer, coming to see where Falcon Beach is shot… But I guess at the end of the day, it didn’t add up. The money offered isn’t enough. They had to make a decision to pull the plug.”
The second and final season has already aired on Global in Canada. In the U.S., Falcon Beach began airing on ABC Family on April 9th and is expected to conclude on July 2nd. No plans have been released to tie up any ongoing storylines. Stay tuned!

Hey,I’m 41, my 14 yr old daughter got me watching Falcon Beach in the 2nd season. We even stayed up late 12-1AM to watch it. We love the show..PLEASE reconsider cancelling the show!!! or least do a finale season.

I am so ticked off they cancelled Falcon Beach! Everytime you get into a good show they want to cancel it! What is wrong with you people!!! You put on this other stupid crap, no one wants to see and you cancel the good stuff. That is so stupid that they are cancelling it because it didn’t get the right age group! Who cares how old they are, as long as people are watching the show and getting good ratings, that’s all that matters.
I think the people at ABC Family should get their heads examined!

Hey, I’m 52 and have been watching Falcon Beach since it started. I learned about it from my sister (she’s 55!!!). Obviously ABC is has no idea who their ‘demographic’ is. I love this show and only learned today that it was cancelled, while I was searching the web to find out when season 3 started. WHAT A LETDOWN ABC ! As for the time slot issue, who cares?, if I have to be out, I tape it.
Hi! I am 23 yrs old and I ABSOLUTELY loved Falcon Beach!! I was so sad when they announced no season 3. Its disappointing because now we wont know what happened next.. Thats what I liked about Falcon Beach..after every episode it left you thinking what was going to happen next.. I think the show is good and the casting is really good too. I think they should pick it back up and just do it on a evening weekday. Jason Tanner and Paige need to reunite :). Anyways, I am 25 years old and i love it. Greek and Falcon Beach are my favorite on ABC Family. Pull it together!

I just wanted you to know that even though you aren’t aware, there happens to be lots of older people that watch Falcon Beach. I am 28, and my Mother is 49, and we watch it together every week. Why don’t you re-think your decision and give the Beach another season before drowning our hopes. Please don’t cancel my favorite show.
What is with all these stations? Is there something in the book of rules that insists you take off all the interesting shows like Falcon Beach and Crossing Jordan, but you keep all the retarded shows like The smarted idiot model, or “let’s watch another gorgeous Bachelor get hooked up with some hot girl, cause I am sure he needs the help to get a date. Come on people, contrary to popular belief, there are some moderately intelligent people out here that like GOOD shows. Please bring back Falcon Beach!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t understand why they are not going to make a season three of Falcon Beach…thats the whole reason i even may attention to ABC Family…wy not cancel stupid shows like Kyle XY or Wildfire…watched the pilots and hated them…but Falcon Beach was great and i am dissapointed with the network for their decision!!!
I am very disappointed that you are canceling FALCON BEACH. I also 35 and LOVE the show. Like Kim said when you have kids and want an older crowd need to put the show on later time about 9pm. Please don’t cancel the show. This show was a down to earth and good.

i love Falcon Beach..i watch it all the time…now irtts only onytv but i still watch it every time it; even though it season 1 and 2…and i know a lot of people that are over 18 years old and younger that love this show we talk about it all the time…its soo sad that its being taken away! so i beg you PEALSE PUT FALCON BEACH BACK ON THE AIR!!!!! for all of the people that love this show! thanks a bunch hopefully -Kathleen.S
I’m 22 and I love that show. I also agree with the 7:00 spot….not only that the 2nd season of it was aired at midnight where I live..How do they expect anyone to watch that!!! I hope they change there minds!!! b/c it is a great show!
