The ABC TV show about what happens in the future apparently doesn’t have one. FlashForward has been cancelled after one season.
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted in September and attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.47 million viewers. With a lot of buzz, it seemed like ABC had a hit. For week two, the ratings dropped to a still very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
But then viewership just kept falling, hitting a low of a 2.1 in the key demo and just 7.1 million viewers. Then, ABC pulled the series for three months. The spin was that they would relaunch FlashForward after the Olympics.
The network gave the return a significant amount of promotion but it didn’t help. FlashForward’s ratings were even worse and they just kept dropping. They’ve gotten so bad that The CW has been beating them in the demo.
To no surprise, ABC has cancelled FlashForward after one season of 20 episodes. The series finale will air in two weeks, on May 27th.
What do you think? Did FlashForward deserve a second season? Could ABC have saved it? If given the chance, how would you wrap it up?

This sucks. I am so sick of getting all into a tv show and then the stupid network cancels it. This is the reason that people don’t watch tv like they used to. who wants to get 8 episodes in, have a million questions and theories and the show gets canceled and you never find out anything. If abc cancels one more show that I watch then I am just going to stop watching that network. With all the people i have seen blogging about this you would think that they would change their minds. It worked for NBC when… Read more »
It’s a great show. Well written, imaginative…I look forward to it each week. I DVR it so I can watch with my boyfriend, it’s one of the only things we agree on. I think the hiatus hurt it big time. Good shows being canceled after a few outings is sad. I’m not a “nielsen family” but who is? The days of watching a show when it’s “on” are done. People have so many things to choose from now, content is endless…good shows should not be let go after avery brief run, an audience is there, they just need time.
this is just not fair. just when i thought flashfoward was going to be my replacement for lost, they cancelled it. and they renewed v!!!!! i honestly thought it was going to be the other way around. i am a huge fan, and there are so man questions unanswered. lets just hope to god that they dont cancel it. i love it
Everyone has a point – why bother watching series that air on networks that cancel anything worth watching! I am invested in Flashforward, I enjoy the story line and the characters! It has the same type of intricate and creative detail that both Alias and Lost have! Why cancel something that has this much draw for people who think that “reality” (if it can even be called that anymore) tv is long overdue for an end! How did ABC expect this show to flourish when it is opposite Bones (a show I love) and other highly watched shows? All Flashforward… Read more »
I love Flashforward. I started watching it as my new “Lost” and now it’s going to be canceled. It’s really frustrating; I set out time between work, class, and homework only for it to be canceled. There’s no need for me to be watching ABC anymore.
I have watched every episode and it would be very sad to see it go. It deserves a second season. FlashForward IS my favorite TV show and I will most certainly cry if it is canceled. Please give FlashForward a try and keep it going for a second season. Please
I have become a huge an of the show and would love to see more of it. The biggest problem with the rating is not due to a lack of interest. Instead, I believe it’s because they have put the show on air at the exact time that Survivor and the new episodes of Bones are on. These are shows that have a huge following. FlashForward is new show, and unfortunately, the public hasn’t had a fair chance to see it because of competing these shows. When given the choice, people are going to watch what they know they already… Read more »

Simple rule for success 5486: Don’t cancel your best TV programme.
ABC disappoints viewers once again. First, its ABC Family affiliate cancelled Kyle XY, a great sci-fi show. Now, ABC has cancelled FlashForward, another great show full of potential. The characters and the story line are great. There is real chemistry between the actors. My family and I watch the show every week and look forward to new episodes. It is getting to the point where we no longer want to invest the time it takes to get into a new series when all of the good shows are getting cancelled. I agree with a previous post which states that the… Read more »
It was slow to start, but I’ve watched every episode – and with each episode, it gets better and better. Don’t stop now! I’m hooked!
FlashForward %100 deserves a second season and the chance to live out the story.
I am a HUGE fan of lost and it made me very upset to see that lost is leaving although comforted it has a end. Seeing Flashforward gave me another great show to keep my attention on every week. If flashforward were to come back I would watch it to the end.
There have been only two shows I have watched faithfully this year. 24 on Fox, and Flash Forward on ABC. I have watched every single episode at least twice because there are so many nuances in it, you need to to catch everything. The show is excellent and hasn’t been given a fair shake. If any show on ABC is cancelled, it should be V. I still watch V, but it has gotten boring. Flash Forward keeps my attention from beginning to end.
SAVE FLASH FORWARD!!!!
finally a tv series my wife and i love to watch and look forward to on thursday. what the hell? are you going to replace it another stupid secret agent show thats so redicilous and boring ? i agree that it takes more than one seasaon for an audience to grow, give it a second chance or aren’t you executives interested in watching your own productions? its only the bottom line on the money you make on the damn 4 minute commercials every 6 minutes. its a great series and the best of most. GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE, PLEASE
Flashforward is a very good show. And frankly the only show I watched on ABC. The problem is most people do not watch a new show the 1st season. It takes time to get hot. For example most shows I do not pay attention to until the 2nd or 3rd season and then I’ll go back and watch the old episodes. It takes time for people to talk about it. It’s a great show with a great cast and amazing storyline. I could see that the show really has to take off as it probably costs a lot of money… Read more »
