After its debut, it looked like the new Hawaii Five-0 was one of those rare animals — a revival of a classic TV show that didn’t crash and burn immediately. Still, the series isn’t turning out to be as big a success as CBS might like you to believe. The series started off very strong in the ratings but has been losing steam every week.
Hawaii Five-0 debuted on September 20th to a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic (the number that the networks care about) and 14.2 million total viewers. In week two, those numbers dropped 8% but that really isn’t bad for a new show. In week three, they dropped another 3%. This past Monday, they dropped a whopping 11%, hitting a low of a 3.1 rating and 10.7 million viewers.
The CBS series still places first in its timeslot, most closely challenged by Castle. That ABC series registered a 2.7 and 10.66 million viewers this week, up 4% from last week. If Hawaii 5-0’s downward trend continues, it won’t be long before the show loses in the timeslot and could end up in danger by the end of the season. For now, it’ll almost certainly get an order for nine more episodes bringing it to a full season. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see.
Interestingly, last year’s timeslot holder, CSI: Miami was doing much better at this point in the season. After four episodes, it was averaging a 4.1 in the demo and 13.72 million while Hawaii Five-0 is currently averaging a 3.5 rating and 12.47 million. Perhaps CBS should have left Miami in its old timeslot.
What do you think? Will Hawaii Five-0 end up surviving past this season? Was it a mistake for CBS to boot CSI: Miami out of its established timeslot?

Hi all you automatons, I found you again! First you hawked your lame, shill-y lines on TVBTN, now here. Attention “AO’L” über-fans! Maureen, Will, Natalie @TalkinToU (and anyone I missed), this means you! I said it before and I’ll say it again. Show us some real passion in your comments; it can’t be that difficult. Most of the other positive commenters on this page sound genuine in their enjoyment. Making a bunch of posts that read like a CBS press release only means you have nothing meaningful to say about the show, good or bad. It makes me wonder if… Read more »
This show is so hokey it pains me to watch. After two times I can add my two cents…crash and burn
First of all, the new Hawaii 5-0 is BASED on the old show. If you don’t like it, fine, don’t watch.
Personally, I like it a lot, especially Scott Caan as Danny Williams.
I am going to keep watching the show. I did miss one episode, but, thankfully, I caught it online.
CBS: KEEP THIS SHOW!
Love the show. The actors all have chemistry with each other, and it is way better than having another reality show. I vote keep it. If they think it will do better on a different day and time I am all for moving it, but please keep the shows coming.
I realize that this latest incarnation of the classic 70s cop show is a “re imagining”, but that doesn’t help this ham handed cliche ridden drivel. The writers and, by extension, the actors, have made the characters unlikeable. The stories are at best derivative and the dialogue -well. I did say cliche ridden. In sum, this is a terrible show.
I am very disappointed in this show. After the last episode I decided it was too boring to get through one more episode. Was this written for PRE- TEENS? I like to watch shows that are cleverly written, I think it will be cancelled.
Yes big mistake moving CSI Miami. NO, F**K that, a HUGE mistake. WTF? And they should have left CSI NY alone too and put Hawaii Five-0 on Fridays. (Since CBS killed off 2/3 of their Fridays.) You got a good show here CBS. Don’t quit on us now. It is absolutely F**KING rediculous how many good shows are canceled in their first season. We already got three new shows canceled now, in less than a month. Don’t make it four. Or do it anyway, it’s not like your gonna listen.
I believe that Hawaii Five-0 is CBS’ number 1 new show, winning its time slot with very good demo numbers for four consecutive weeks on Monday night. In addition, the entire cast is outstanding, portraying their intriguing characters to perfection. I love the action, humour, beautiful scenery of Hawaii, diverse crime story lines, awesome character development and fascinating characters! I believe that CBS will give the green light for the back 9 new episodes this season and approve a second season for next year!
Watched it until a few minutes of last episode. So far, we have police officers letting their family flee crime scenes, threatening people with throwing them off buildings and then to start the last episode a cop uses his badge to get his daughter out of federal custody after she sets off a smoke detector on a plane. WOOHOO!!! What fun. Just the way I hope our justice system really works. Realized that this show wasn’t about solving crime but making the case that we should go back to the 1930s way of doing business. Apparently, they decided that just… Read more »
Love the show. Don’t cancel it
Big misstake. CSI:Miami sucks big time. David Caruso is a terrible actor. A remake of Five-O was a bad idea.
Hawaii Five-O is doing just fine. ALL shows last Monday took a hit because of the delayed NFL game and all the drama surrounding that.
I think your headline was just to get hits. The new Hawaii Five-O has won over most of the resistant fans from the original show and pulled in great #s of the desired demographic. The show IS a keeper! Expect to hear about a pick up of the back 9 any day now. Alex & Co are doing very well…….thank you!
I Can’t believe people like this version, this version is just awful, everything about it was godawful and however said that o’loughlin is better than david caruso should be ashamed of themselves, he is talentless, just like this lame version of a great classic.
I Tried getting this show a chance, but I Can’t, cause it stinks.
Poor Jack Lord must be rolling in his grave as we speak
This remake is a disgrace.
Love the show. Don’t cancel it…
I love Hawaii Five O!!! CBS has always been too quick in cancelling tv shows!!! Besides, CSI Miami is beginnng to show it’s age and even bringing back the gorgeous Adam Rodriguez is not enough to overcome what this show is suffering from now: no new ideas for engaging plots! Alex O’Loughlin is a much better actor than David Caruso. Let’s be real…..does anyone truly talk like that? True, I believe that the new Steve McGarret could be a little more fun, but give the show a chance. CBS made a mistake wen they cancellled Moonlight. Don’t do it again… Read more »
