TV show description:
This soapy medical drama, set at the fictional St. Matthew’s Hospital, is loosely inspired by the life and career of the world-renowned Dr. Kathy Magliato, as recounted in her book, Heart Matters.
A cardio-thoracic surgeon, Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George) struggles to juggle her personal and professional lives. A maverick in her field, the outspoken and outstanding doctor is not above being outrageous. She eagerly fights authority, particularly when it comes to her patients’ health and well-being.
Three men feature heavily in Alex’s life. Liver transplant surgeon, Dr. Pierce Harrison (Dave Annable), is Alex’s colleague and current lover. His competition arrives in the form of a cool Australian, Dr. Jesse Shane (Don Hany). A former mentor and boyfriend, Jesse wants to rekindle things with Alex.
Then there is Max (Joshua Leonard), her gay ex-husband and the father of her two children. A rock star, Max still cooks and cares for Alex, even though he left her for another man. The two remain dear friends as they co-parent.
The politically incorrect Dr. Callahan (Jamie Kennedy) is a gifted surgeon with body odor. Blunt and obnoxious, he calls Korean-American scrub nurse Ji-Sung (Maya Erskine) “Ping Pang Pong.” Despite being a no-nonsense professional, the sarcastic Ji-Sung develops feelings for this abrasive man.
Callahan’s racial and otherwise offensive nicknames are limited to neither women nor Asians. He refers to resident anesthesiologist Forester Marcus (JLouis Mills) as “One-eyed Black Man.” A former military man, Forester saw his entire platoon killed in Iraq. Callahan, Ji-Sung, and Forester form a love triangle.
Millicent Silvano (Shelley Conn) is the hospital’s Chief Operations Officer and has been Alex’s long-suffering friend, since med school. Dr. Hackett (D.L. Hughley) is the Chief of Psychiatry. Alex considers him a hack.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — What Happens in Vegas… Happens
Alex fights to save the lives of Jesse, Pierce and Ji-Sung when a mysterious and deadly illness sends the hospital into lockdown. Meanwhile, Millicent must pick up the pieces when Alex disobeys the orders of the CDC, and an elderly man searching for his missing wife leads Alex to make a drastic decision in her love life.
First aired: May 25, 2016.
What do you think? Do you like the Heartbeat TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I found the show to be very entertaining. I will be totally disappointed if this is not renewed.
Please renew Heartbeat….I really enjoyed the show! If you don’t bring it back I hope another network picks it up.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the unique is how heartbeat and are dismayed it was cancelled.
This was my favorite show.. I am so UPSET that it was cancelled… UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring it back NOW!!!!!!
I just got through watching this series on my demand. I really enjoyed way watching this show. I hope it comes back on.
I cannot believe this show was cancelled!!! Big mistake! This show was ultimately entertaining! I cannot express my disappointment enough. Just a side note- the people making these decisions should probably stop looking strictly at network/cable reviews and start watching how often these shows are viewed on Hulu, Netflix… There are a growing number of us that no longer subscribe to the ever growing pricey cable/satellite companies or are able to watch the show as it airs. It has not been that long since I cancelled my cable, so I can safely say that this show was not properly advertised… Read more »
You got to be kidding me! Great plots, talented actors and actresses, even dancers. A show with a story line not focused on violence, crime and gore, what more do you want? A mid-season start surely did not help much. It’s not very fair. Perhaps if networks gave more promo to shows like this and offered less promo to ‘reality’ shows (translation – phony, farces) and their well established shows, it would have gotten more viewers.
Love this show, it can’t be cancelled, to disappointing. There is not much on TV, this was well written and terrific actors. Best show on tv in a long time. How will we know if it comes back?
Love this show. Much better than most of what is now on TV. Please bring it back. We need more strong female role models.
I loved Heartbeat . Please bring back.I think when you start mid season it is hard. Bring back soon
