What does your gut tell you? Is this the beginning of the end for the Instinct TV show on CBS? Although originally, the episode “Long Shot” was supposed to air on Mother’s Day, it has been pulled from the schedule for May 13th and is being replaced by a second episode of 60 Minutes. Whether Instinct‘s season two renewal chances are the real long shot remains to be seen.
Instinct is also not scheduled to air on May 20th, but that had already been the plan. According to the network’s press site, new episodes are still slated for May 27th and June 3rd. Of course those weeks fall outside of Nielsen’s May Sweeps period, which this year runs from April 26th to May 23rd. Whether Instinct will be cancelled or renewed for a second season, it seems CBS may not have wanted it to further dilute the Sunday night ratings during Sweeps.
A CBS crime thriller, based on the James Patterson novel, Murder Games, Instinct stars Alan Cumming, Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews, and Sharon Leal. The drama centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured out of his peaceful retirement as a university professor and author, to help NYPD Detective Lizzie Needham (Novakovic) catch a serial killer.
Instinct: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Instinct is averaging a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.859 million viewers. Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’re tracking right now, Instinct currently ranks 21st when sorted by its demo ratings. It rises to ninth place, however, in terms of average total audience size.

Love the show. It is one of only three shows I watch on network TV. Keep cancelling shows and it will be down to only 60 Minutes. I guess only the most inane shows survive.

I love this show! It is the only new show I’ve watched this season! I love Alan Cummins in this role and hope the network decides to leave it in place. Good Grief – how can you know if ANY show will make it after just a few episodes. And Nielson can’t know who is watching certain shows at certain times when everyone DVR’S shows to watch later!
I think this is an excellent show I enjoyed it and I’m sad when it is not on the air. please don’t cancel it Alan Cummings is an excellent actor and the plots are great. Very entertaining

I really like Instinct. I think the characters are strong & the plots are interesting & exciting. I definitely like the two key characters in Alan Cumming & Bojana Novakovic. They are a great pair. Please do not cancel it.

Can’t believe CBS wants to cancel “Instinct” which is finally a “refreshing” show while still running same old, same old boring detective shows over and over again. Time to switch networks if they do!
