Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

Very bittersweet ending, didnt know it was gonna be the last show. What are the networks thinking!! What a great show, love the cast. What an extreme bummer!
I didn’t realise that it was the last episode, so it came as quite a shock. It felt a little rushed and really should have been a two hour episode, but was still a good show. Loved the credits where the cast got to say goodbye to us, their faithful audience of 7 years.
Good show. It kept my intrest ever since the series started.I hate to see good shows end.
i am sorry to see the show go i loved every episode. its just ashamed no one picked up the rest of the shows.
I’m sooooooooooo bummed the show was cancelled — I had no idea they were ending the show until I watched the 1/21/11 episode. Okay — it was a great ending show, but I want Medium to continue!!!! 🙁
i loved the series but was not pleased with the end. It felt as if the seasoned writers passed off the last episode to their interns. It could have ended with the family in tact which was the backbone of the series— the family connection. And simply left them moving forward. It is sad it had to end and even more disappointing it was concluded in this way.
I’ve been a faithful follower since the beginning of Medium, and didn’t know it was being
canceled! I’ve very disappointed that channel 2,4 or 7 or even a cable station didn’t have
the foresight to pick it up again! Such a great show! A breathe of fresh air and they had
to cancel it! Not much good T.V. to watch anymore. Say! Who is making these bad
decisions to cancel these shows anyway??? Goodbye “Medium”. You shall be missed :(:(
I can hardly wait to see what show they’re replacing it with…
Was diappointed with the ending. Didn’t like knowing that she spent the next 41 years without Joe. They should have fast forwarded it 5-10 years together showing them enjoying their children and grandchildren together.
The final show caught me by surprise, I wasn’t aware it was going to end. I ran threw all the emotions while watching. The episode was great. But I am sorry to see the show end I really enjoy the show!
This ending absolutely SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hated it. The writers failed misserably. Joe dies, she dies in a home, the kids are far away, we never see Bridget grown up, and Joe only visits once in spirit. Awful, I was a faithful follower for seven years and the last episode left me angry and empty. Thanks for nothing you sucky writers. Again you failed. It could have had a miriad of endings and you gave us anger, sadness anda clip of a grown family that barely held an iota of the original love that the family had.Why not some happiness? Why… Read more »
My wife and I had no idea they were ending the show, we were so pissed. We love this show and it’s about the only thing on Friday night’s worth watching. Now it’s gone. Shame on you.
For seven seasons, Medium has been a TV show I did not miss. From the characters, especially the actors who played them–all excellent–to the story lines, it was a supberb program, and that coming from someone who rarely watches network TV (more an HBO, AMC girl). Had an opportunity to attend a small group setting to hear the real Allison Dubois and she too commented on the show’s attention to detail. I’d forgotten – or maybe tried to -that last night was the finale. So the tears that welled up at the end were not only for the sad yet… Read more »
I cried. I had no idea it was ending. Haven’t watched that often since they switched networks just because I didn’t really know where it was. But I cried. I thought it was incredibly sad that she had to live so many years of her life without her Joe.
I was a Medium fan since the first episode & enjoyed it every Fri nite for past seven years.Joe & Allison had a very believable relationship, so natural ! Loved all the cast members. I will really , really miss this great show. The acting was superb. I wish only the best for these actors who gave me such enjoyment –Thank You
I hate when the tv channels cancelled the shows so suddenly, to star silly, stupid shows, I love this show, was so sad to let it go.
