The fantasy series may have been cancelled by NBC after one season but Merlin continues to be a big success elsewhere. The BBC ordered a fourth season (series) late last year. It’s currently being filmed and will debut in the UK this fall. Last week, Syfy officially announced that season four of Merlin would air here in the States in early 2012.
Now, it’s been announced that Merlin has been renewed for a fifth season overseas. Production on this new round of 13 episodes will go into production in March 2012. We’ll likely have to wait until Syfy sees how well season four performs before licensing number five.
Here’s the official press release:

Wonderful series and I will watch as long as the show is on any channel I get, first run or rerun. There is so much going on in each show that you really should watch it more than once to appreciate all that is there. The colorful countryside, hooded forests and glimpses of peasant life are gifts. My 7 year old grandson has Friday night sleepovers so we can both watch Merlin. He is a seasoned video game veteran who found it curious that the show was like one of his video games and he was surprised to find me… Read more »
I love Merlin. It is one of the few programs that I watch. Please keep it going for years to come.
I love Merlin on Syfy. Every Friday, I look forward to ordering a pizza and enjoying the latest episode of Merlin. Syfy should definitely continue to carry the series.
I Love Merlin,
It is my favorite show on television. I love the characters and the storyline. I hope that Syfy will continue to air it. The series is refreshing. I enjoy the mystery and adventure. The characters are courageous. I am looking forward to season 5.
PLEASE KEEP MERLIN ON SYFY CHANNEL FOR ANOTHER SEASON. MY FAMILY LOVES THIS SHOW!!!!
Merlin is a fabulous series, and I am totally addicted! What a great way to escape at for an hour every week – to find a world where there is magic and heros and where you know that good will ultimately triumph! I constantly watch episodes from Seasons 1-3 on Netflix. With all the awful programming on NBC, their executives were really stupid to drop it. However, BRAVO Syfy for picking it up – please, Please, PLEASE renew it for Season 5! And I agree with Cheryl – can we have more episodes???
I love Merlin my sons too we think there should be more than 13 series per season. Why cant you have say 16, yes i know its more money but it would be worth it, this series is awesome, the concept is great although i’m frustrated because Merlin cannot use
Magic always to save lives and soo on , waiting on season five hopes its great
Yes, please give us the fifth season of Merlin in the U.S. I DVR only two television shows each week. In my opinion, Merlin and NASCAR are the only good things on TV. The stories of Camelot have always facinated me. Now, my entire family is hooked on the adventures of King Arthur, all because of Merlin. Please, please, please give us the fifth season next fall (2012).
Love it glad it’s renewed:)
Merlin is one of the most totally enjoyable series I have watched in a long time. It’s a timeless story retold in such an entertaining way with a touch of humor. The actors are wonderful…I have watched all 3-1/2 series and can’t wait for the 5th series. PLEASE bring the 5th series to the United States!!!!
Really enjoy this program. One of a very few “just enjoyable shows”. Do hope it stays on
a few more years, at least.
Love Merlin and hope to see season 4 and 5 in US and Canada.
