Last May, CBS announced a bold move, to take their hit The Big Bang Theory off of the Monday night schedule and shift it to Thursdays, to take on NBC’s traditional night of comedy. In its place, the programmers put another show co-created by Chuck Lorre, the creator of Two and a Half Men. On paper, it sounds like a brilliant move. Now that the Mike & Molly’s premiered, how do things look?
Mike & Molly follows Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell) and Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy), a fourth grade teacher. They meet at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting and soon fall for one another. Others in the cast are Reno Wilson, Nyambi Nyambi, Katy Mixon, and Swoosie Kurtz.
The new sitcom debuted to a 3.9 rating in the prized 18-49 demographic and 12.2 million total viewers. That was enough to tie with NBC’s The Event for second place in the demo and have the second most number of viewers.

Historically, the CBS sitcoms who get the post-Two and a Half Men timeslot have done very well. CBS has high expectations however and has ended up cancelling several sitcoms that performed okay on this night. While the sitcom has good initial numbers, it’s not a positive sign that Mike & Molly lost 20% of the lead-in’s demo audience. Last year, Big Bang Theory was building on the lead-in and frequently outperformed Men in the demo.
There was a loss of about 7% of the audience midway through the Mike & Molly first episode so its seems likely those people won’t be back next week. It remains to be seen how many people will. This is a show whose fate will likely be decided over the next several weeks. Right now, things could go either way. Some critics and viewers have wondered how long it will be before the show runs out of material.
What do you think? Is Mike & Molly worth watching? Did you find the fat jokes offensive? Would you cancel or keep it?

i like Mike & Molly… i think the first episode i watched was the 3rd episode.. i’m hooked!!! everyone’s part is perfect…. Keep it coming!!!!
This is a fabulous show, the cast is perfect. I enjoy all the characters. The writers are terrific how they can come up with the scenario and dialogue week after week is greatly admired. Please keep this show. It is refreshing to see reality instead of plastic people .It is a big asset for the show. Most of the public enjoy real life and situations. Thank You, THank You ,Thank You.
Please keep Mike and Molly!! I love this show, mother and all. I love the characters who identify that they r over weight and need to loose weight and the weight doesn’t hinder them from having a life. Thanks for giving us Mike and Molly
This is one show that should stay on the air. Melissa McCarthy is the sexiest woman on any TV show. We need more actresses and models built like her. Incidentally, the show is also rather cute. I love the relationship aspect of the show. I’ve never seen her before but now that I have discovered Melissa McCarthy I’ll be her fan forever.
Keep It! Great Characters. Very entertaining.
Keep it!
Please keep this show going for another season — it is absolutely hilarious !!
With some of the lackluster shows on non-cable stations that have emerged, this is a refreshing new twist of comedy.
I love this show!!
I think that it’s soo cute!! Way better than that raunchy Two and a Half men. The sister is HILARIOUS!!
i love this show ,being a born chicago native,i like the realism it produces of chi-town people.in fact they are the average size of a chicago couple and just as funny.
please lets keep it……………….
Home sick Keith B.in ohio.
Thank you.
My husband and I look forward to watching this show each week- Please KEEP IT! It is refreshing to see two people who are “REAL” have a good relationship, and they are very talented comedians!
Its high time that TV makes “Real” people feel like they matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!! commendations to the writer and all the actors!
I absolutely LOVE this show!!!!! I, too, like it that this show is not about skinny model individuals. It is, instead, about 2 individuals who meet and fall in love, their trials and tribulations along the way. They are also more the norm of everyday people, not Hollywood eye candy. My husband and I are both heavy set. I am so happy that there is a sitcom about “US” size people. Real people. This is a sitcom that I can sit either with my husband or by myself and laugh outloud at. I have not been able to do that… Read more »
When Mike and Molly came on I liked the fact these two were not skinny sticks. I like their professions on the show although I feel Mike is a bite heavy for a policeman (He may need to chase someone etc) BUT I must say farewell, ado. The reason is the mother, played by Swoozie . (Swoozie herself is a good actress) whoever writes her lines…wow..what a **** for a mother. I can no longer give up 30 minutes of my life to listen to such disgusting lines. If you kill her off or she becomes what a decent mother… Read more »
I LOVE THIS SHOW – please leave it on…The writers are spot on. I’m watching the shows again on my DVR and I’m laughing all over again! This is way better than those reality shows
I absolutely love this show. The one liners are great. I would much rather watch a good comedy than a stupid reality show.
i think you should keep it! it is about people that are not perfect! they arent the skinny super models but they are funny and the fat jokes are inappropriate! it is a great show! i love Mellisa McCarthy! i watched her on gilmore girls and i have loved anything she is in since! she is great and the show needs to stay on the air! i am tired of the shows with the perfect people with the perfect bodies and rich and all the other stuff that aint like real life!
