Last May, CBS announced a bold move, to take their hit The Big Bang Theory off of the Monday night schedule and shift it to Thursdays, to take on NBC’s traditional night of comedy. In its place, the programmers put another show co-created by Chuck Lorre, the creator of Two and a Half Men. On paper, it sounds like a brilliant move. Now that the Mike & Molly’s premiered, how do things look?
Mike & Molly follows Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell) and Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy), a fourth grade teacher. They meet at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting and soon fall for one another. Others in the cast are Reno Wilson, Nyambi Nyambi, Katy Mixon, and Swoosie Kurtz.
The new sitcom debuted to a 3.9 rating in the prized 18-49 demographic and 12.2 million total viewers. That was enough to tie with NBC’s The Event for second place in the demo and have the second most number of viewers.

Historically, the CBS sitcoms who get the post-Two and a Half Men timeslot have done very well. CBS has high expectations however and has ended up cancelling several sitcoms that performed okay on this night. While the sitcom has good initial numbers, it’s not a positive sign that Mike & Molly lost 20% of the lead-in’s demo audience. Last year, Big Bang Theory was building on the lead-in and frequently outperformed Men in the demo.
There was a loss of about 7% of the audience midway through the Mike & Molly first episode so its seems likely those people won’t be back next week. It remains to be seen how many people will. This is a show whose fate will likely be decided over the next several weeks. Right now, things could go either way. Some critics and viewers have wondered how long it will be before the show runs out of material.
What do you think? Is Mike & Molly worth watching? Did you find the fat jokes offensive? Would you cancel or keep it?

I think this show will get a second season. It strikes a chord with what are culture has become and it has above average writing.
I love this show!! Cast is great, love the writing. Finally a show that makes me laugh out loud. I am glad that it is 30 minutes. I don’t have a lot of time to give to watching tv and it is nice to have a return to shorter shows.
I love the show!!!!! If I can’t be home to watch it I DVR it, I don’t want to miss it. This weeks episode was GREAT, anyone who has stopped watching don’t know what they missed :0)
I just think this show is awesome. It is honest and true and just down right clean and funny. I agree with a previous commenter that the show should be 1 hour long. It is a KEEPER.
I love the show! It is the best comedy that I have seen in a while. I like his partner and how they have this wonderful comradery.
I love this show! The writing and the cast get a big two thumbs up from me!
I love the show. Me and my husband laugh till we cry.
It started off promising. Then it quickly slipped into obscure stupidity and secured itself for cancellation
It is one of the best shows ever. All the channels seem to be filled with a bunch of losers in reality shows making big bucks when you can see the same thing sitting at the corner bar. Mike & Molly is hilarious. You can’t help but love them & Mike’s partner, Carl is hilarious. It is so good to finally have some decent programming & I laugh until I cry with that show. Thanks for finally realizing that people need to laugh & see likeable human beings -not a bunch of nobodys some producer pulled off the street. Years… Read more »

cast is amazing……………..
LOVE IT !!!!! laugh till i cried … normal every day people with normal issues everyone deals with … KEEP IT …
KEEP THE SHOW! I LOVE IT! I like the way Mike and Molly deal with their weight; they joke about it but they are not belittled. I actually think the writing is clever and hysterical! Keep the sister and mother! Their characters have their own ‘issues’, adding to the fun in dysfunctional!
I LOVE THE SHOW BECAUSE I CAN RELATE IAM A BIG MAN AND MY NAME HAPPENS TO BE MIKE AND WHEN YOU CARRY YOURSELF LIKE MIKE AND MOLLY DO I THINK THATS JUST GREAT AND I KNOW FOR ONE THING IF MAKING PEOPLE SEE THAT IT DOES NOT TAKE A SHOW WITH LIL BARBIES AND KENS TO MAKE A HIT! ANOTHER THING I THINK THE SHOW SHOULD BE AN HOUR LONG
Mike always walk with your head held high. I agree however that this show should be 1 hour long. This last episode was the best. When Mike passed out mid entry into the window…OMG….the look on Molly’s face as she just peered down to say. Ah a little help. This show is definately a keeper.
LOVE the SHOW!!!! LOVE Mike and Molly…BUT not loving her family. Would be happy if they get rid of her Mother and Sister…they don’t fit in.
