Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

I loved the show and can’t believe another good show has been cancelled . It seems everytime I get into a good show it’s taken off for some stupid reality show. I’m sick of the reality shows. They should at least give a show a couple of years before they take it off. Do they count the number of episodes that are taped and watched later when they rate these shows? I’m getting sick of t.v. not having decent shows to watch. It seems only the stupid shows seem to last forever. I’m very upset about losing so many of… Read more »
I totally agree with you about “every time I get into a good show…” and ABC has been the worst of the networks for doing this to us. We get good quality shows with interesting storylines that draw us in every week. And then they are cancelled. The reality shows that are so cheap to produce are yesterday’s news. I am going back to the cable programs and stay there. At least, cable networks give shows a couple of years to grow or fizzle. Good bye, ABC!
I totally agree. How come I never get asked to rate shows? I hope another network will pick it up.
I am so very disappointed that this show has been cancelled. I loved the creative storyline, the intrigue, the characters and actors, the scenery and background, and the sophistication. I believed in the story and characters. Perhaps I am not typical, but this became my favorite TV show – no, not after espisode 1, but I was intrigued and soon thereafter it was my #1. Please bring it back, somehow and someway. I don’t usually watch TV shows on a regualr basis, but I considered this a real treat. ( I also view and listen to PBS and NPR.)
It’s all those idiots who watch reality TV. Thank God for Netflix!!
I’m so sick of all these amazing shows being canceled, when ridiculous shows like Scrubs and various reality shows like the Bachelor and its female-oriented counterpart continue being renewed. I think it speaks volumes about the mental state of viewers who support the renewed shows above, and turn away from anything that actually requires the slightest use of their brains! Missing, Awake, GCB, and others have been axed this season alone, and yet, we’re still being spoon-fed the dribble they call worth saving again and again. And the worst part is, every time a show gets axed, I look up… Read more »
The show was decent, but could have easily been finished off with one season. I could have told you who was behind the kid’s abduction like two episodes before it was revealed.
I can’t believe this show didnt have enough viewers. It sucks that people prefer to see the dumb reality shows instead and I have to loose the good shows. I havent missed an episode and I hope the season finale end in a way that leaves me even more ticked off there wont be a second season.
Shouldn’t have cancelled show. Much better than many other program.s
Excellent show that shouldn’t have been cancelled. Great cast and story line. Better than any reality show.
It looks like our society won’t watch anything other than pathetic reality shows that require a low IQ to enjoy!
this show should have gone to tnt
Shows like this really deserve at least a 2nd season. For the story line, I dont think it could have lasted multiple seasons but we LOVE this show and I’m sure there will be alot of watchers left with unanswered questions and a want for a renewal. This always happens to the good shows and yet we have so many garbage reality shows on TV. Please bring this back for a wrap up in the story line 🙁
[…] UPDATE: Missing has been cancelled. […]
I would really like to think of shows that don’t get renewed after one season as a long mini-series. I think the blame about not having closure when the series ends on a cliff hanger should go to the people who make the show. I’m always so ticked off when a show that I follow ends on a cliffhanger and gets cancelled. In a way, you can’t really blame the networks for cancelling a show because of low ratings. I get that part. My beef is with the people behind these shows hoping for some miracle that they’ll get renewed… Read more »
I thought the show was pretty good. I sure hope they don’t replace it with some reality junk like the Baclelor/Bachelorette. I’m really tired of that stuff.
I am soooooooo saddened to hear my show has been cancelled. I have never missed an episode but I guess me being one viewer is nowhere near enough to keep a show running. While I understand that after week before lasts episoe the show might’ve taken a turn for the “silly”, I am still dedicated and I love Becca’s charater and couldn’t wait for her and the Dax to find out he was sleeping wih the enemy. I am sad that the finale may leave tooooo many unanswered questions and that I will always be trying to figure out how… Read more »
