Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

First off (and this goes for All shows) they need to wait longer on ratings for those that don’t have cable and only stream the shows next day, month later, or after the entire season has ended. My bet is that 3/4 of people stream vs cable. these days. Second, the show’s IMDb ratings are 7.4-8.1 on episodes individually so I’m not sure how it got low ratings 5yrs ago. If Nancy Grace can have a show go on for 10+yrs too long, Missing deserved its shot. If anything, shows need to get wind of if they are being renewed… Read more »
I think that you are 100% correct about the ratings and at least knowing b4 the final episode is filmed. I just recently binge watched another ABC show “Secrets and Lies” I only found the 2nd season to watch but it was a great show and I was super excited for season 3 as the end of season 2 was a huge cliffhanger. Looked it up today and that show was also canceled.
I totally agree with you, I just recently binged watched the whole season and I totally totally love the show amd am itching to see a second instalment, only to find out that it has been cancelled. I personally think its an amazing show and it sure deserves the change to run its course, I know a lot of people who are just seeing the show now & a eager for the next season. not to mention the cast where amazing #teamBecca
A friend and I just watched “Missing” on HULU, and I was quite impressed with the acting, the strong characterizations, plot and the rich variety of European settings. The series was as good as many big budget movies I have watched, with lots of realistic action and emotional situations. It may be the series was run in a time slot where it was up against some other very popular shows, that caused it to show more poorly than it would have in a better time period. We have watched lots of series on Comcast and Xfinity On demand, and never… Read more »
I didn’t see it on-air because I don’t own a tv. But I bought and enjoy re-watching the dvds. I think the show got the ax because the kidnapping was unmotivated (I *still* don’t know why he was grabbed) and the episodes were unevenly written. But things like that are generally regarded as “teething pains”, and get combed out in the second season. Few series get the chance to start out so wonderfully as “Once Upon A Time” — or go downhill so relentlessly afterwards(!). Most improve, as “Burn Notice” did right up til the writers shot themselves in their… Read more »
My guess on why he was kidnapped is because of the stolen stuff in the security box. I believe they wanted the contents as ransom. They (bad guys) were even willing to cut off thumbs to get their hands on the stock papers. Paul was even about to hand over the papers when they got word that Michael escaped so, they bolted because now it would all be for nothing.
My co-worker and I were just talking about this show and wondered what ever happened to it because we both thought it was a great show. I looked up and read it was cancelled after the first season. If so many of us liked this show then why were the ratings so low? Where do the ratings come from?
I didn’t know about this show and just watched on Hulu. This was such a good show, story line and wonderful acting. Don’t think it was marketed well! It was much better than a lot of shows.
I can bring that show back contact me
Oh My Goodness.. I just watched the entire season and why would they not make another season.? How can they just leave the ending like that. Sooo disappointing as a viewer. I thought it was an excellent show…
Hoq?
I meant, how?
How can you bring it back ?
So enjoyed seeing my favorite actress kick ass and so disappointed that the big shots decided, once again, to cancel an excellent show, bring it back, please.
This sucks! I can’t believe this! This show was awesome!! There should have definitely been a season 2! I’m so disappointed!
This show was awesome! Completely disappointed there is no season two. It’s better than a lot of garbage that’s on TV with renewals.
I believe there should have been a second season how are yall going to say yall hope that the last episode had enough closer for the viewers that are still watching when there was not any closer the mother went missing now how are you just going to end it like that now come on you cant do that end the season like that an expect that your viewers would be happy cause im a viewer an im not happy at all how you ended it an is not going on with a second season so disapointing smh…….
Wait what?? I
Must have missed something, didn’t see the mother go missing, saw her on the plane with her her ex fiancé.
Where did you see that ending??
I just realized you guys were talking about a different show lol I was thinking of “the missing” where a child goes missing. Was wondering what everyone was discussing lol
Great series, lots grunt and substance, brilliant acting and script with awesome cast. Hopefully one of the cable networks will pick it up. Don’t lose faith Ashley you did good.
The missing season should have gone up to 5th. Its a good season.
Wow, what an awesome show! Totally loved it! The cancellation of this show is one of the reasons I normally won’t watch a new show until there are at least 3 seasons. The good stuff gets cancelled and the shows without substance seem to last several seasons. Thanks ABC, you’ve done it agaun!
Please, gif us a seccond season to see what’s hapoening with Becca!!!!
Now I finally discover why there was no season 2 to this great series. This drama was better than others that are still on the air. After the finale, I was expecting and waiting for season 2. How can you have a finale like that and never find out what happened to her? That’s why you have a continuation season. I am hoping you reconsider in pushing for a season 2, and keep the original cast.
