Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

I am so mad that this show is being cancelled. It is a great show that keeps you on your toes every week. I always look forward to the next one. Whoever decides which shows should be cancelled should fix their mistake. I hope some other network picks this show up as well.
They didn’t even give it a chance! 10 episodes and in competition with The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory and American Idol? Come on, it’s like they sabatoged it day one. It’s too action packed to be on at 8pm. It should have been on at 10pm after Grey’s Anatomy. I haven’t even bothered tuning into Scandal. Why would I subject myself watching a show depicting the scandalous life of an American President when I can watch it on the news? Missing was different, it was well written, the plot was both emotional and intense. I’m so annoyed with… Read more »
Maybe another tv channel will take it over? Maybe NBC? My mom and I love this show. I’m so sad to see it be cancelled.
“Missing”, in my opinion, was one of the best action/drama shows on television in a very long time. Great plot, great actors, great locations, great filming. Every week, it was like watching a 1 hour long movie, due to the way it was filmed. I thought the story was well thought out and portrayed beautifully by cast members, both veteran actors and newcomers alike. It’s a sad commentary of our nation, when they would rather watch Reality TV, vs. good action drama that requires you to think a bit. Goodbye ABC….I’m done with you!
Good-bye to ABC! TV is full of such violence, and trash. This was one of the few intelligent shows. Another show that got canceled was Awake. It seems television isn’t for intelligent adults anymore!
I am also very disappointed!I agree totaly, that Missing is the only tv show worth watching.Everything else on tv is nothing more than garbage.I look forward every week to watching another episode. Why don’t they cancell The Kardashians and the other dumb reality shows on tv ?Why don’t the people who write tv shows use there heads and do something new, instead of remakes? My husband is always telling me we should cancell our star choice because nothing is on anymore. It didn’t help the ratings when they moved Missing from thursday to tuesday nights. It took me a couple weeks to find… Read more »
This was my favorite show. ABC is full of such trash! So is NBC! Television is not worth watching anymore! Full of violence, and stupidity! I am so sick of reality shows. This isn’t television. Reality shows are not entertaining! Maybe, the exec. can get them cheap, but I am really tired of no talented people on t.v., just because they look good! Most of them belong on magazines, not acting on television! I am sick of all the crap on t.v. Thursday was a good night. Now with Missing, and Awake canceled. Not to mention The Firm. It seems… Read more »
It is/was a good show but they should only have it for a session. After she finds her son call it quits it shouldn’t take more than one season to do that and I wouldn’t want anyone else to be kidnapped after that.
As far as a bad time slot, I don’t know anyone who watches live TV anymore other than sporting events and stupid reality TV.
This is really disappointing news. This show deserves a chance better than it has been given. I really never understood the 8/7p.m. time slot for this anyway. It seemed a more fitting 10/9pm show.
Missing deserved another time slot. Why didn’t the t.v. exec. give it a different time slot. These were real actors. This show was so entertaining! You are never going to get the likes of Ashley Judd, not to mention Jason Isaak of Awake on television again. This is how real actors are treated! With such contempt! This is how original writers are treated as well, with equal contempt! Terrible!
Typical idiotic decision by TV execs. Imagine a TV show with exciting locations, interesting characters, and a real story line. Wait…I know…instead let’s do another reality show. TV has turned to such crap. Shame on you ABC.
Great show full of intrigue and excitement with new twists every week. I hope a cable network takes a chance and picks it up. There is almost nothing left to watch on major networks anymore except mindless reality shows and silly sit-coms
I loved the show but american idol was at the same time and i knew i could watch this over the weekend via timewarner on demand.
I am very disappointed! This is such a great show, but it is in a terrible time slot. It is not a kid show, but on at an early time. I usually watch it the next day because of this.
I am officially giving up on tv. It seems an intelligent audience can’t be found any more but just drones that are feeding off of the Kardashian/jersey shore kind of garbage. ABC should at least show fans some decency and just do a second season just to patch things up and offer some closure. I’m getting sick and tired of seeing every good show get awkwardly cut midway leaving me with thousands of questions. After Missing, I’ll be listing ABC on my list of networks not to commit my time to. NBC has been on that list for quite a… Read more »
This is so disappointing! Missing is my favorite TV show right now. Too bad ABC didn’t stick with it, the story line is great. I can only hope another network picks it up now.
What a shame! One of the few shows worth watching.
Myself and my friends all enjoyed this show and looked forward to it. Very sorry to see it cancelled. I agree with others who have written about reality shows…
