Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

We love this show! We are in shock. ABC please don’t cancel this great show!
SOOOOO very disappointed 🙁 Loved the show Not the type to watch a bachelor want to make it with whoever–or spy on people in their rooms–grow up
Give us some shows that excite us like reading does!!!!!!!
I can’t believe ABC is canceling the ONE series that is actually worth watching, has excellent performances by an outstanding ensemble cast, and a story line that keeps you on the edge of your seat like a big budget action thriller!!! The Execs at ABC should seriously reconsider a second season, or have their heads examined. REMEMBER who STILL PAYS THE BILLS AND LOVES MISSING – the WORKING UPPER MIDDLE CLASS!!! If Missing failed to find an audience, it was lack of proper marketing and scheduling by the network that caused the demise! ABC should focus their energy on continuing… Read more »
Maybe more people would have watched if they didn’t move the show around so much in the begining. I thought Judd was great . Now what is there to watch another reality show. I’m so sick of them.
Can’t believe they are cancelling this show. Was it ABC that cancelled the show “Wild Roses”. This is so dissapointing. All we see today is vampires. when are the producers going to get real?
It’s getting to the point where I don’t even watch new shows…I just wait till a show has 3 seasons and then I’ll start watching it. I have just been fooled so often getting into a show just to have them dump it. Im better off going back to hogans heros or xfiles…there are plenty if old shows that i have not even scene, why bother with new junk if they are just going to cancel it. It is just too frustrating…it seems like they are not happy unless they have a perfect rating…but that might just get them a… Read more »
We loved the show. Very disappointed that a bunch of suits decided what we want to watch. SHe is a great actress and the plot was good. Oh, I know, spend money for another ridiculous reality show.
This was a great drama action show. It is a shame to see it cancelled when there are other shows that are crap to say the least. I hope another broadcasting station will pick it up. Not much left to watch on ABC that is for sure. Should at least go until the son gets gets rescued – another season or two for sure. Put it in another time slot and not against American Idol.
Loved, loved, loved the show. I like that the setting was throughout Europe and that there were international stars. Bummer!
I’m disappointed but not surprised. The reason it’s not renewed is that people only watch dumbed down shows now. In my opinion ABC made the same mistake when the cancelled Flash Forward. That was a great show also. I’m sick of reality shows and want to watch something with substance!
Finally, a decent series comes along and is cancelled. I am a writer, currently doing a subprime series. I am on a very short list of those without a non-disclosure, on the board of New Century, for 10 years.
This season was disappointing. There were way too many shows introduced at the same time, leaving the viewer to choose old vs new shows, unless they can record 4 at one time. Ridiculous. This show should have a chance.
I love the show but I think the 7pm time slot was bad. It is hard for people who work until 5 to get everything done in time to watch a show at 7. Please bring it back with a later start time.
We love this show. Finally a show to watch and it is going missiing from the guide. Please find it and return it.
My husband and I love this show! It reminds me of watching 24. I am sad that there will be no season 2. It is a great thriller and the plot keeps you guessing. Very disappointed.
I am so annoyed that this show has been cancelled, I’m starting to think it’s not worth watching good quality tv on some networks when they don’t give them the full backing they deserve. Too many series have ended leaving viewers wanting more or without giving the viewers proper closure. Perhaps the networks should look at gaining viewers for the short haul and not the long haul so that we can get enough closure in say, an 8-12 episode run instead of 22 or so episodes. There are a few series that do this already and they are better for… Read more »
