Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Sorry to hear it is being canceled. One of a few new shows that we enjoy watch. Too much junk on tv. Hope they change there mind.
PLEASE BRING ” MISSING” BACK !!!! WHAT A GREAT SHOW, ASHLEY JUDD IS
TERRIFIC!! GIVE IT ONE MORE SEASON, AT LEAST!!! WELL WRITTEN, WELL ACTED, WAS LIKE WATCHING A MOVIE. I REALLY LOOKED FORWARD TO IT EVERY WEEK.
THANKS!

I think the ratings are wrong, and miss guided. The show was top notch, with very good actors. It was by far the best show in that time slot, and for that matter, one of the best on TV ABC, you screwed up!!! (again)
Very disappointed over learning about Missing being cancelled! I absolutely LOVE this show and it is one of few shows that I look forward to watching every week. Really do hope it comes back – some way – on another network or channel or something — the story and plot are just soooo good!
Sad. Finally a good action/thriller that even guys like (noticed most posts were from women) and ABC dumps it. Could it be the time slot and not the product? I think so. Granted, the story line can’t run on the “missing” pretext for long but it could have run at least two seasons. Heck, we just found out who the bad guy was. Let’s see where that goes!
Missing was one of the best new shows this year – I am shocked it is being cancelled. My husband and I look forward to watching it each week – and feel Ashley Judd is the female Jack Bower. ABC should bring it back – and I agree it would do better at a later time slot. Maybe one of the cable networks will pick it up – it is a keeper!
I LOVE this show. The characters are fantastic and each episode leaves me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. I have told a lot of my friends about it. Perhaps another time slot could be tried. I think Ashley Judd is wonderful in everything she does. I don’t think the show has been given a fair shot. Please bring it back; it appears that a lot of people love this show.
This is ridiculous, this is one of the best new shows. It is like watching a James Bond film. I myself have had enough shows like American Idol, the Voice and now duets. What are the executives thinking? I think because it started late in the season, people did not get used to the time and date. I hope some network is smart enough to pick it up and try another time slot, it was excellent!
Loved the show . Writing was professional, acting superb.
Cinematography was excellent. I guess the American public
Would rather see crap.
I love this show. I have been telling my family and friends to watch it. I agree it was on early hour and I had to watch it on On Demand later sometimes. The casting is great and story is very interesting. I can’t believe it gets cancelled.
I loved this show. What a shame. Ashley Judd was wonderful along with the rest of the cast. Maybe a different time would have been better; like after Grey’s Anatomy. Very Sad!!
This is horrid – it’s a great show and it didn’t get a chance! It seems like all good shows with an actual plot that isn’t mindless reality shows get canceled. This was actual entertainment. Maybe the exec’s just don’t know what good entertainment is anymore??? It would be great if another network picked it up!
I think that Missing was on too early in the evening. Some people can not sit down to tv until later on like 9 or 10PM. I loved the show!! Ashley Judd was wonderful in it and I feel badly it was cancelled. I also believe that they moved it around too much at the beginning, and that some viewers missed episodes and were confused with the scheduled time!! Maybe they could try it at a later time in midseason (if they have more episodes left) and see how it does.. there are plenty of reality shows and musical shows… Read more »
Very disappointing. This is a great show. I have not seen a show like this in so long. It’s the best show it captivates the viewer . Please bring it back we all love it
I am so DISAPPOINTED, FRUSTRATED, and DISGUSTED that Missing has been cancelled. The show is one of the more intelligent shows on ABC. Give the show a different time slot and give it a chance, at least. We do not need another reality show — these shows are getting stale and old and boring. If Missing is truly cancelled, I am one viewer who will block ABC on my television. Ashley Judd is amazingly talented, as well as all of the other actors. The writers are obviously extremely talented. Who is in charge at ABC that makes these decisions —… Read more »
