Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Re: Missing – ABC. Hope another network picks it up!! The reality show blitz is driving us crazy. They are about as interesting as watching paint dry! Where do the networks find all of the simple-minded people for these tacky shows anyway? There must be a lot of them in the audience as well for these types of shows to continue. Can’t believe shows like that trump ones with decent storylines. Must be cheaper to make – greedy, greedy!!
I loved this show and I’m so sorry to see it go. If they would take off some of the stupid crap that airs instead like Family Guy , American Dad, Futurama and junk like that, and especially south park. Those are some of the worst shows ever to air on tv but they keep on keeping on. It sucks.
I am very disappointed upon hearing that ABC has canceled “Missing”. This happens to be an extremely well written show and the actors are superb! I never understand why you never give any shows the proper time to prove themselves, or to pick up an audience. If the 8 p.m. time slot isn’t working then maybe you should try a later time. I really hope you will give this another chance because it deserves it.
It is a huge mistake to cancel a quality show like Missing!!!! This show makes the viewer think and try to anticipate as opposed to shows that require NO mental input at all!!
Ashley Judd continually shows her superb acting ability. The show probably should have had a more catchy title, becaus it is not merely a search for the son but the intrigue of international espionage. Sorry to hear that the show will be cancelled.
I would like to know where they get their ratings from. This was a good show, not more of the brain dead stuff of reality shows and sitcoms (that most are not all that funny) Who is the numbskull making the decisions …..Put this show back on so at least we have something decent to watch that is interesting and not mind numbing….
I will never understand the logic behind this move…Missing is of the best shows on TV…BIG MISTAKE ABC!!!!! I hope that some other network realizes what a great move it would be to pick it up.
This is the first show since 24 was taken off that I faithfully watch. The acting was awesome.
soooooooooooooooo sad its ending!!!!!!!!!!! it is such a great show!! i was looking forward to what was next!!! this sucks!!
HUGE mistake! Ashley Judd is amazingly believable as Becca. I am seriously pissed off that this show is not renewing. It was the best new show this year, right up there with Revenge. I am really, really unhappy that they are not renewing and may boycott this station altogether as a result… If another network picks it up, I will be a loyal fan to that network. Screw ABC with their crappy choice of shows. Can you plese tell me how Desperate Housewives ran for what seemed like 10 years and should have been gone @ five years ago. They… Read more »
OH MY GOODNESS!!! Can’t believe its being cancelled! My girls and I have anxiously waited to watch it every Thursday night! It is one of the best shows that ABC carries. I’m hoping another network picks it up and with their power and know how advertise it properly because that is an awesome show and Ashley Judd is an incredible actress!
This was a smart show, with lots of intrigue and the locations were amazing. Cancelling this show is a big mistake! ABC will however leave on all the crappy reality shows. I really liked this show, never missed an episode and yet its yanked away. I’m so tired of investing in TV shows only to have them end much too soon. This show was original, intelligent and had a great plot, so it was bound to be cancelled.
Can’t believe this show is being cancelled. I think someone has made a huge mistake. Every show was like a mini movie. My 17 year old daughter doesn’t watch many drama shows, but this one she loves. Wish there was a way to keep the show on.
ABC, are you Crazy.this is the best show you ever had!!! How the heck are you getting your ratings! Who ever does that is soooo wrong! Everyone I know watches this show and loves it! Wake up, you don’t care what the people want! Get real!!!!!
I had heard this and didn’t think it was true. I agree with everyone else – all these reality shows and stupid comedy shows stay on forever. When I read about “Missing” I read that is was a hit from the beginning, so someone doesn’t have the story correct. I love this show and everyone I know that watches is loves it too. TOO BAD!!!!!!!!!!
