TNT recently wrapped the first season of Monday Mornings, their latest medical drama. Should it return for a second season or be cancelled instead?
Monday Mornings follows the lives of the talented yet flawed doctors at the Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The title refers to the tough peer review meetings that are run by the hospital’s sarcastic Chief of Staff. The cast includes Ving Rhames, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao, Emily Swallow, and Alfred Molina.
The show started off the season with just 1.36 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was less than half of what the Dallas premiere lead-in drew with 2.98 million and a 0.8 demo rating.
The numbers for Monday Mornings didn’t get much better as the weeks wore on. The season ended up averaging just 1.39 million viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.
Given these numbers, it seems highly unlikely that Monday Mornings will be back for a second season.
But what do you think? Would you like to see the show return for a second season or do you think it should be cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on with a bigger audience? Was the title a problem? What would you have called it?
Please renew, it’s a great show. It needs a little more promoting, we found it by accident & after the first episode we were hooked. I never liked Alfred Molina until this program & realized how both insensitive and sympathic he can be. My husband & I would hate to see it go.
I am 67 years old, maybe your demographics are off. This is a great show and I wish strongly that it would continue. It is down to earth in its content and therefor very interesting. The characters are most interesting. Bring it back please.
Monday Mornings
One of the best shows on TV. Everyone I know and watches it loves it. It would be a big mistake to cancel it. There are a lot of really bad shows on TV that are kept on. Don’t make a mistake by canceling it.
I enjoy the show even though there were some awkward and bad moments. I especially am dissatisfied with the do-nothing lawyer that the hospital employs, but so many great plot points keep me intrigued. I wouldn’t be devastated if it was canceled, but I would be upset since there are SO many other generic and awful shows that deserve to be cut over this.
Return it for a second season. With all opf the “junk” that routinely airs on other channels, TNT is making a gallant effort to produce excellent shows. Voice, Biggest Losers, Strorage Wars and other full-fledged losing shows should be dumped in favor of shows with excellent drama.
I think it’s a great show. I would love to see it renewed.
Most people record favorite shows to watch when they can fast forward all the crap (comercials). I record my shows then watch it right after so I can get into the show like a movie. It’s great to fast forward the interruptions. I’m not sure if that changes the ratings when people record them & watch later but that’s how I watch my shows commercial free. It does not mean the shows are great. Monday morning is a great show as a whole each character works. PLEASE STOP CANCELING GREAT SHOWS BECAUSE PEOPLE CAN’T WATCH THEM WHEN YOU WANT US… Read more »
Being in the medical field although this show may have some inaccurate moments I love it and would be extremely disappointed if it didnt come back for a second season. I think one of the reasons it may not get a lot of viewers is it is not on a “prime time” channel and a lot of people have pared back their cable to only main channels.
What an excellent show! I hope this will be airing another season. It would be a shame and a disappointment to a lot of viewers if its canceled!
I love this show. Sometimes fans get nice things from Hollywood, and then it gets taken away from them. This show rocks and it deserves to be a smashing hit. Why didn’t TNT promote it more? Gee, couldn’t they send the always awesome Jamie Bamber to a couple of Late Night Shows? Or Ving Rhames? Surely that would attract some attention. The writing was solid and the premise is amazing. Patients who matter and are more that just a medical mystery of the week? Patients who come back with more issues? That’s rare. Plus say what you will about David… Read more »
monday mornings i the best show ever…like a comment above said…it would be a total crime to cancel it…..my whole biomedical class watches this for a reward for getting our work done and i personally look forward to it every monday…PLEASE RENEW THIS SHOW!
what a great show truly enjoyed the drama and the medical reality shows like Grey’s Anatomy are pure crock next to this give it another season, promote it more
First it was one of the most “real” medical dramas on TV. Greys Anatomy is like a kiddy program, not adult. figures any show that requires brain cells is cancelled.
thought provoking, intelligent, not generic what’s not to love, just starting to build on the characters. it isn’t mind numbing, obnoxious reality and that’s a plus as far as i’m concerned. but of course i’m over 55 and we are not the target demographic. i would look forward to it’s return.
I’m in the UK and found this TV show by chance. I miss ER so much but this is a worthy replacement, I love it – it’s intelligent and involving and the characters are great. There is an increasing amount of rubbish on the TV – in the USA there is as much (if not more) reality trash as there is here in the UK – so a rare good quality TV programme such as this needs to be cherished rather than cancelled. I have my doubts that ER achieved very good ratings initially, although they did have George Clooney… Read more »
