In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

They need to put this show back up and running for season 6 and more. It is so hard to find good hilarious tv shows on since according to jim, friends or everybody loves raymond. The new adventures of old christine is the best show and became my top favorite and its so disappointing they aren’t going to air it anymore. big, big mistake, everyone i know loves it and Im not interested in the many tv shows airing now and especially the same old reality shows with new seasons and same stupid drama, which is why i’m thankful the… Read more »
This is such a great show that should have more new episodes. So many reality shows are so boring. I never watch Big Brother that took over Old Christine’s time slot because it is just a waste of time. The ratings on Big Brother were the same as Old Christine and it is coming back because Julie Chen is married to the head of CBS. No one has the balls to cancel that show. Someone should.
I miss it and so does my family. We Loved it.
The major networks really need to have the average man or woman in charge of programming on their networks. I do NOT watch television for reality shows. I get enough reality every day already. I watch for GOOD comedies; something to make me laugh and relieve my stress. Talk shows don’t do it; reality shows don’t do it; news shows don’t do it. NAOOC was one of the few best shows on television. CBS, you really DID blow it. I’m gonna give up t.v. altogether if they don’t get some good sitcoms back on the air soon. ABC/CBS/NBC YOU ALL… Read more »
There are only 3 shows that I can watch over and over again and still laugh like crazy…
Everybody Loves Raymond, Two and a Half Men and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE. What a pity that such a unique and hysterically entertaining comedy would be cancelled. I am so sick of reality I could scream and long for the days of really great situation comedy’s. “Christine” was one of those that “had what it takes” .
You blew it CBS.
Doesn’t make sense. Cancel a great show! Here’s an idea.. put another lame realality show or cop\doctor drama on so I will have one more reason to not tune in. Seems like the networks finally get some good show writers and can a great show. CBS………you suck!
abc must give it a shot, the show really is great and an inconclusive end to such a show is very unfortunate
THEY TAKE OFF A SITCOM THAT COULD HAVE RIVALED
EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND AND LEAVE ON RULES OF ENGAGEMENT. BAD MOVE ON THEIR PART
‘Old Christine’ is one of the best shows. I regret that I did not watch it when it was part of CBS, but have seen it in syndication and love it. Back-to- back episodes are currently (April 2011) running on Nick at Nite.
It’s great. Wish someone had the sense to bring it back. It is lol.
I love this show!!!! I’m so upset it got cancelled!!!!!! Julia is such a funny actor and I hope she gets the chance to be on another sitcom soon. I wanna see more of Hamish. He really captured my attention!!! Robyn
We watch this on ON DEMAND now because it is one of the few shows that we actually laugh out loud! Julia Louis-Dreyfus was as funny as old Christine as she was as Elaine on Seinfeld. Who the hell is making these decisions to cancel funny shows and put on ANOTHER crime show. Time to listen to the people!
This was a funny show. They always cancel the good shows like Reba, Still Standing, NAOC,etc! Shame on them!
this is one of the best shows since Seinfield.
We watch it every time it comes on. We even watch the reruns over and over like we use to do with Seinfield. My husband laughs so hard that he cries. Please give it another chance.
wish they would bring it back
It seems every show that I can watch that with the family they cancel
give us some good wholesome TV
now day’s all it is, is fake reality shows
I’m so sad that Christine didn’t return. It really bothers me when these shows, whom we have followed faithfully since their beginning, decide to just shut down and we as the viewers aren’t given any closure to the series we’ve been following. The least they could do is make these decisions before the season is over and allow the cast to prepare a final show.
This was a GREAT show and I miss it as I’m sure the other viewers do. It was so well written and witty. Shame on you CBS!
Please put it back on…It’s great!!
