While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

We love this show. Please let it stay on the air!
Enjoy Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs, but HATE Medium. Sometimes I forget to come back to Numb3rs after switching away because of Medium. CBS had me for the whole night when Moonlight and Flashpoint had the 9 o’clock spot, but not anymore. It’s too bad that Numb3rs gets cut because of a really bad lead in.
I would hate to see Numbers canceled. I have been a loyal viewer for all 6 seasons, culminating in tonight’s Season Finale. If the network “does” in fact cancel the show, at least provide us with closure. When Las Vegas was canceled several years ago, they left viewers hanging, with no closure to varied interpersonal relationships and story lines. Therefore, if they cancel Numbers, please provide us with at least a final episode to tie up loose ends. The Series Finale of Monk was a good example of the way a really popular T.V. show should be put to bed.
Don’t cancel NUMBERS! It’s a great show and part of the CBS super-strong mystery complex.
Love the shows. DO NOT CANCEL PLEASE. Great casting and the shows teaches all of us how important mathematics (numbers) are in everyday living.
Please bring back numb3rs. Get rid of Ghost Whisperer and put a decent show in that time slot. Then people will stay on CBS on Friday nights.
Love the show. DO NOT CANCEL PLEASE. Great casting and the shows teaches all of us how important numbers are in everyday living.
Friday night is our time to go out. We either tape or rush home to see Numbers. If you take it off we will watch 20/20. It is a show of intelligence istead of the sexual mindless garbage that is on. KEEP IT!!!!!!
Numbers is a fabulous show, one we never miss, even if we have to record it to view if we have been out of town! Love this show, its characters, its story lines and action! One of the best shows available to telivision viewers! As one viewer pointed out, the Olympics impacted the ratings of many shows this season, please don’t use that as a guage for true ratings now that they are completed! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP IT GOING!!!! AND GIVE IT THE 22 EPISODES BACK, THEY ARE TOO SHORT AS IT IS!!
Please bring it back! I love the show!
I love it, I don’t wnat to not see this family again, they are fun and it makes Math interesting to me, a non math interested person
I enjoy Numbers and would really regret its being canceled. I hope CBS will bring it back for a 7th season. Adding Flashpoint to Friday nights would be great also.
I love this show, it provokes lots of thoughts of different ways to determine cause and effect. Keep the show on the air.
Great show. Move it to another slot and it is and will be a winner.
Friday night is hard on any show due to people starting the weekend early.
We love this program. As we have watched it every year it has grown to be a part of our Friday night enjoyment. This will be a terrible loss. It’s a just right blend of not too violent, high morality, challenging philosophical thought, and just all around great programming. Please don’t take Numb3rs away from us!!
