While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

There goes yet ANOTHER intelligent show….. Keep Numbers…. There’s plenty of trash out there that they SHOULD cancel.
please do not cancel numb3rs. it is an excellent show. don’t take the good shows away from us. also i like flashpoint . it is an excellent show.
I think Numb3rs is one of the most interesting shows on TV right now. I don’t really watch a lot of it but when i do i normally tune into House and Numb3rs. Its not very common you find a show that has something special. I would rather watch a show about a FBI agent and his brother who is without a doubt very smart, solve cases with something as complex as mathematics. Every time i watch this show i feel just a tad more intelligent. It would be a huge disappointment if this show got cancelled.. we need more… Read more »
If this is the last season for Numb3rs it would be a shame for TV it is well written acted and always interesting stories it is the only show on TV that extolls the virtue and benefit of a Math or Science Education in America today! It is just good entertainment as well! I am fan that purchases the episodes through iTunes and down loads them and I watch these episodes in Germany it is the only TV show I pay for!
Please keep numbers. It is indeed a family show about a family. The story lines hold our interest – and we are very, very loyal folks who watch it. I hope CBS will reconsider and keep this great show.
I like Numbers, but I am sure they will cancel it. I would rather see them ax Medium. Recently it has been terrible, with poor story lines. They always cancel decent shows and keep ones that I would not waste my time watching.
I watch on 3 shows. Numb3rs, NCIS, and now NCIS Los Angeles (only because of Linda Hunt, I think she is great and funny). I really would hate to see anyone one of the shows end but especially Numb3rs.
Numbers is the only show that my family watches. If it leaves TV, we will watch the History and Discover Channel and the major networks will be a thing of our past.
I really look forward to Friday nights and Numbers. It is one of the better shows out there. I don’t want it cancelled!!!
KEEP IT! We’d be very sorry to see it go. Needs better writers, not a new show.
KEEP NUMBERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although I do not watch it live as Friday night is date night for me and my husband of (31 years) I do tivo it and enjoy it later. I also don’/t delete it so that my 21 year old son can watch it later. I will be deeply saddened if this show is cancelled. This show is one of the few that encouraged family values while helping make the community a safer place. The closeness of brothers/sons and fathers long after puberty is refreshing.
We watched Numbers every week. It is the only network show we watch. The plots are fascinating, the detective work superb and original, and the characters and actors are excellent.
It’s not for everyone, especially in a country that is “innumerate.”
Keep Numb3rs!!!! 2 of the most beautiful actors there are and a Family show!!!! what will u put in it place, dirt, sex, slime. I will not watch anything put in its time slot on Friday at 9:00 and will tell all my friends and colleages.
I would really love to Numb3rs continued. Unfortunately, I won’t hold my breath. I have to DVR it since I’m usually working when it comes on. I got my mom into watching it and she enjoys just as much as I do if not more. It’s a great show with a really great cast and I would really hate to see it go.
