While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

I have watched this show from the beginning and enjoyed every episode. Please don’t cancel this show as there are not many out there to watch.
Numb3rs is on of the three shows I watch regularly (the other two being House MD and The Office). If they cancel it, I will not be happy. I didn’t even know that the 16th was the finale so I was very surprised when I turned on the tv on the next week and there was no Numb3rs on.
Whether ratings and viewers dropped or not, there are still plenty of people who do watch it, so I will be very unhappy if it gets cancelled. Hopefully some cable company will take over if CBS decides to cancel.
why cancel a good show like numbers and leave on medium, that makes no sense at all. and where do they get the rating anyway, in todays society people have dvr’s and tivo to record what they like so how would they know what anyone really watches.
It is a great show. I think the ratings are down because Friday is a busy night for a lot of people
Also one of my favorites. We have never missed even one episode. Always a great story line – one of the quality shows still left. Please don’t cancel this show – freshen it up if you have to, but cancel? NO.
I love Numbers, one of the best shows on TV. I love the closeness of the father and sons, with the extra characters it is great. I hope they don’t cancel this family drama!
My family has watched Numbers for the past 6 years and look forward to each episolde. I hope it will not be cancelled.
What is wrong with the TV Stations? You know not everyone in the world wants to watch ridiculous inane comedies or show with preadolescent getting pregnant or acting like idiots. I have been a fan of Numb3rs since the very beginning. There is still a ton of story lines that could have been done. Thanks a lot CBS for eliminated one your best shows.
Numb3rs is a great show i simply love it the cast plot lines everything i will not watch flashpoint i do not like it and i dont know if i will watch anymore fridays shows on cbs if this one is canceled because i love numb3rs.
Love the show. would hate to see it cancelled.
I love Numbers. It’s our families favorite show. Why do they always mess with the good shows and put ones with smut on instead. Why do they always try to fix something that isn’t broken. Listen up Powers that Be….Leave this show alone!!!!!!
Debbidy, you couldn’t be more right! Perhaps a different night would be better for this show. I love Rob Morrow, he is great!
Numb3rs is my favorite show on television. I really hope CBS continues with the series.
Their is nothing to watch anymore. Dont cancel Numb3rs.
Numbers is on of my favorite shows. Hate to hear that it may be cancelled.
Numbers is one of my favorite shows – one of the few ones left based on great plots and content instead of relying shock value, sex or gore to gain viewers. It will just plain stink if they cancel it.
Why are all of the high quality shows cancelled? These characters actually have character! Maybe a cable channel will pick this up – they seem to know a quality show when they see it. Southland was picked up by TNT, so maybe there is hope for Numbers. I like Flashpoint (a possible replacement show?) but I’m not going to watch any CBS shows on Friday if they cancel this one.
