While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

BRING NUMB3RS BACK FOR A 7th SEASON!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!
Numbers is one of the all too few intelligent, clever and worthwhile programs on today’s TV schedule. It is a program whose story line is not dependent upon offensive language and near pornographic sex scenes to hold its audience’s attention. I was shocked and horrified when I discovered that I could no longer look forward to Numbers, a high point in my Friday evening for the past few years. I have rejected many programs because they became increasingly offensive to me. Please bring back one of the few programs which have not let me down or dissapointed me. I miss… Read more »
Please bring Numb3ers back. I miss the show, the characters lives and the action and drama. Its a great show. I’ve been watching all the repeats and love it.
Numbers should not be cancelled. It is one of the few good shows on tv. I am so tired of all of these stupid reality shows. I get enough reality in my daily life. CBS is the network I watch the most but I will stop if they cancel the show.
I love Numbers! I would hate to see it go. I is such a relief to watch a well thought out drama. I really hope they continue it for many more seasons. But they cancelled Moonlight and several others so CBS doesn’t seem to really care what real people want to see on a perfect Friday night or any other time.
Both of us enjoy Nub3rs and will be very disappointed if if doesn’t come back.
Please keep it on the Friday night schedule!
Numbers is the only series I watch regulary!! I have my DVR so I never miss a show. If Numbers goes – so does my cable!
We Tivo Numbers and always watch it and enjoy it, hope you don’t cancel this show.
Please don’t cancel Numbers.. I looked forward to it every Friday. I have truly missed it. I enjoy this show very much and can’t believe that others do not.
PLEASE Bring Numbers back….I miss the show 🙁
I will be very disappointed if this show is cancelled. I have watched since it first came on it 2005. It is a nice change from all the “reality” shows”, which in my opinion are stupid. Numbers is a show the whole family can watch without worrying about language or nudity, or anything else that young children should not watch or hear. Its a show about a family and the diverse jobs that fall within. I hope CBS listens to its viewers, but I doubt it as all large companies are interested in is the bottom line. Greed has taken… Read more »
The writers have incoperated quick wit and interpersonal relationships in a series of who-dun-it with math. This is a show that works. My family has watched this show since it began in 2005. CBS, don’t make a mistake and take this show off the air.
I’ve watched this show since the first episode. I had to get a DVR so I wouldn’t miss anything when I couldn’t be home. Now I enjoy watching the old episodes and hope to have many new ones in the future. This show has helped spike my children’s interest in math. Anything that promotes and interest in learning has to be good. This show is a keeper!
I would watch 10or more seasons, so please bring this one back. it is a top quality show that has no match!
Apparently CBS doesnt care about its viewers and its customer base. Numbers is a fantastic show, and a welcome repreive from all the dumb reality shows. No wonder why all the networks are losing money, they worry about their own pockets and dont actually consider what their viewers like. I think alot of the CBS execs need to get out of their office, quit going to their partys, and start doing their job like they were hired to do. Even though the book ” the best service is no service” is customer relations oriented book it may bne beneficial for… Read more »
